Academica make double capture

Sougou and Aguiar contracted by Coimbra club

With pre-season training camp just around the corner, Academica have secured two more signatures for the upcoming season.

The Students have acquired Sougou and Carlos Aguiar (brother of Sporting Braga’s Luis Aguiar) from Uniao de Leiria and Liverpool de Montevideo, respectively.

Sougou arrives on a free transfer from relegated Leiria and has signed a two-year deal with the Coimbra based club. The 24-year-old, who played a total of 27 matches for Leiria last season, scoring two goals, will link up once again with Portuguese coach Domingos Paciencia. The Academica boss made his coaching debut with the Leirense.

As for Aguiar, the 29-year-old also signed a two-year deal with Academica and is a defensive midfielder by trade. The Uruguayan featured in 14 matches for his club back home, scoring three goals, and is looking forward to squaring off with his brother once again.

“I am anxious to face him again. We have played three matches against one another with one victory for each of us and one draw – a 2-2 draw where I scored both goals and he got one for his team. Maybe it’s good like this because all of our family will be at the stadium and everyone will be happy.”
