Belenenses plump for Pacheco

Former Boavista coach takes reins at troubled Lisbon club

Jaime Pacheco

Belenenses have found the successor to Casemiro Mior. The club have announced Jaime Pacheco as the club’s new head coach.

The wily Portuguese tactician takes over from the Brazilian, who was sacked from his post earlier this week, and will stay with the Blues until the end of the season.

Mior had posted a miserable record since taking over the club this past summer with two draws and three defeats. After drawing against Naval last weekend, the club had seen enough and relieved Mior of his duties.

Pacheco will now take over the coaching duties after having left Boavista, for a third spell, last season due to the club’s dire financial situation.

Impressive CV

Belenenses will be Pacheco’s seventh team after having coached Pacos de Ferreira, Rio Ave, Uniao de Lamas, Vitoria Guimaraes, Boavista and Mallorca.

Pacheco has decent results as a coach in Portugal with a record of with 175 victories, 102 draws and 104 defeats.

He achieved the considerable feat of lifting the national championship with Boavista in 2000/2001 – the first time the Portuguese title had been won by a club outside the big three for half a century.
