Portugal and Scolari: have your say

Is the Portuguese press right to crucify Scolari?

Scolari

What do you think of the current situation surrounding the Portuguese national team and coach Luiz Filipe Scolari? Will Portugal make Euro 2008?

Under the leadership of the Brazilian World Cup winner Portugal enjoyed a hugely successful four-year period.

But a recent rocky spell hit a new low on Wednesday with Portugal conceding a late goal to draw their third consecutive match and put qualification for the 2008 European Championships at risk, following by that punch thrown by Scolari.

The players have backed Scolari. What about you? To give your opinion fill in the form at the bottom of the page.

I am Portuguese and my wife is Brasilian, Rita, Rita, Rita its to bad you make your opinions based on ignorant facts. Its to bad people like you are able to write on blogs, because you are what fuels hate, to stop any form of racism you have to love the one who hates. Keep up the ignorance, and it will always follow you........

Some nerve Rita in London, or any Brazilian, to complain about the way Portuguese treat them !! Who's bigotted and offensive, us ?? Amazing. Overwhelmingly, Portuguese are non-violent, civilized people, who respect all "etnias" and cultures and judge people/s on their merits without ethnic prejudice. "Boçalidade" is a rarity among us. Get the drift ??

As a Brazilian citizen I am very disappointed to see Scolari helping the Portuguese international football instead of being in his country helping his football. Unfortunately, now a days the world is not moved by passion but by money. What surprise me the most, in this all situation, is the very bad way Portugueses are treating the Brazilians who live in Portugal and, even the Brazilians who are there as a tourists. The Portugueses have been very racists and very rude towards us Brazilians. Are you Portugueses
forgetting that your international football was not recognized by the rest of the world before Scolari? And one of your players is a Brazilian who scored a goal in this first game of euro2008?

Is our national coach paying attention to these players? It seems that we continue to accept mediocre performances based on players’ high salaries, and neglect the younger generation that have show more pride and drive than the ones we have in our national team, who are capable of turning the impossible into a miracle. I do predict; if we continue to make the same “anal retention decisions,” Portugal will come short of winning the European cup. Let’s not forget, that we are a country of self-righteous and know-it-all people, and it all starts at the club level.

I've been following the Portuguese team for more than 25 five year and I have to say that Portugal is a more consistent team since Scolary took command. The Portuguese team has always been full of gifted players but has hardly delivered. However under Scolary the results have come: euro 2004 final and world cup 2006.

I was just looking at group A qualifying table and noticed that Serbia only has 3 points less than Portugal with also 2 games left to play. And although our games will be disputed at home soil that does not mean victory as we saw recently...So i hope they remain concentrated and dont let this oportunity sleep out of their hands. It should be a nail bitting performance and i'm so hoping to see them in Euro 2008...

As far the story with Scolari he should be forgiven, everyone makes mistakes and if someone would have insulted my family I probably would have done the same thing.
Portugal seem's to be doing better but I think if they step it up a little more, the euro cup can be thier's. I know they deserve it and mostly definately achieve it. They seem to be getting better each year and hopefuly they will win next year. PORTUGAL ALL THE WAY!!!

Portugal has an excelent team. Probably one of the best in europe. however they can be arogant expecialy plaing a team they concider not to their standard, teams like Serbia. They expected Serbia to fall before them without a fight. When Serbia fought back they got frustrated and tempers started to fly.
Scolary thought exacly like "Richard from Scotland. How can this bums from Eastern Europe give me such trouble. I can do what I want, do what i want and I will be belived and forgiven not this Eastern Europinas. Richard is calling the Serbs "racist" Look who is talking.

i believe the portuguese team is amazing. The players are fantastic: quaresma, ronaldo, nani, even almeida. Almeida is the most underated portuguese player. last year he had a better year than nuno gomes and postiga. Its the begginning of the season and he already has 5 goals in the league, and 2 in european competition. He needs his shot. Scolari, ahhh, forgive scolari, a) with out him where is portugal b) he has a lot of passion for portugal... and mourinho, forget him, lets remember he said 'i feel english'. Hes not coming back to portugal, especially not to replace scolari.

I did like the selection as well, apart from Bruno Alves.I'm glad that Ricardo Carvalho is back.To me he's our best defender.I'm aware that all players have good and bad games, but Deco we need you to be focused as there's no space for error. So the pressure is on for everyone directly involved.I hope Almeida control his nerves as i believe is his first time for the national side and there's so much at stake...

I have to say I like Scolari's selection for this round. Hopefully, we'll get to see Almeida up front as he's been in amazing form for Bremen over the past few weeks.

My only concern is the lack of experience in the holding midfield role. I'm not a huge fan of Petit or Tiago, but I don't know if Moutinho or Veloso are ready yet. I guess we'll find out.

Scolari is looking for consistency and i dont think he's getting that from Deco.I dont think he believes in Rui Costa as much as he believed in Figo .But from what i've heard is Figo himself who quited the National side.According to Scolari ,"the door still opened for him if he changes his mind..."I thought about Sergio myself as he was excellent in Euro 2000.And if i was Scolari would bring him as a sub to see how it goes. But even knowing that i like the Brazilian , he can be very stubborn ...As for Maniche i think that was actually a good idea to bring him back .He brought an energy to the team that was lacking there.I wasn't convinced by Tiago...I would like to see that guy that everyone is talking about Almeida. We have to come up with something, and fast 'cause there really isn't much time left...

    You are right Sandra.
    Portugal needs a leader.
Figo got still pace, but lost the power of his kicks.

So who is left now . I would say 2 players doing amazingly well.

1-Rui Costa 35 years old and still plays well at Benfica. We need a playmaker .. A Genuis like him . Deco and Maniche are missing cruicial playmaking ,we can not just sit and wait for C.Ronaldo to control the pace and passes of the match.

2-Sergio Concesio.33 years old only. Not that old..Still fast. Can be the secound fastest after C.Ronaldo. I saw him during the belgum league. Then I saw him the friendly match (figo friends against world stars) now he plays in Al Qadisya Kuwait. We need him big time. He is great . But scolari does not like him at all. He did not include him Euro 2004 nor World Cup 2006 .

Most people would agree with you. Pauleta was disappointing! But you know what it doesn't really matter 'cause he's not part of the team anymore...Sadly so isn't Figo, who even without the pace he once had still a great player. And i'm sure he would inspire the team to a major comeback that we so badly need for the next crucial games as we are running out of time...

To Sandra. Thanks for understanding my view
To jp, toronto, canada, I have all the facts. And I am aware of the fact that Pauleta is the all time goal scorer .But are numbers are all the time a fair indicator ?
Lets see, how did he reach that figure ?well guess what .With portugal playing 4-5-1 . And Pauleta being the only sole forward player . Then he will surely be the one who will score all the goals.
Nuno is far more decisive and scores important goals at important games from the first single touch . We saw it in WC2006 against Germany . 2000 EURO.2004 Euro against spain. and

But what did Pauleta do ?missed all the goals opprotunities against Greece ? miss the goals opprotunties again south Korea in wc 2002 ? and wc 2006 ?

I suggest you check the tapes again for our beloved Portugese Team from 2000-2007.
And Yes I do beilive that Rui Costa should be back to the team.

Truthfully, I was concerned about Scolari long before this turn of events as Portugal struggled during qualification. I could forgive the Poland loss/Finland tie since they were on the heels of the world cup, but there play has been completely uninspiring throughout qualification with the exception of the Belgium game in Lisbon. Scolari's embarassing actions in the Serbia game have only served to further my disappointment. That said, I think changing coaches at this stage would be a distraction and Scolari has certainly proven that he can turn a team around in the past so hopefully we'll see that over the next 2 months.

    On the striker point:
    - CR has never performed well as a striker for club or country. He needs to play with the ball at his feet and excels when he can run into space. When ManU or Portugal has used him alone up front he becomes disengaged and ineffective.
-The fact of the matter is that neither Nuno or Pauleta is a great option. While Nuno has certainly delivered more big goals,

Scolari's run as the Portuguese national coach had been nothing short of a love affair with the Portuguese people. He must take responsibility for his actions and face punishment but 4 games is excessive. As the coach he has to be the voice of reason when sometimes there is madness, but it seems that madness took over for a bit. Scolari is a human being like all of us and he let his emotions dictate his actions something he tries to have his players control during games on the pitch to be effective.

One thing is certain Scolari's future depends on the Euro qualifications even though he has publicly said his future is up in the air, and the FPF fully supports his actions with them publicly backing Scolari and supporting him in this time of crisis. But Portugal has put themselves in this predicament, they have dropped points against less than stellar opponents and for this they have only themselves to blame including the players. Its funny how the press and all who followed the Euro draw for qualificatio

JP: Figo is also my all time favourite player.Never forget as we were travelling through sahara desert that our tourist guide looked at me and said in a rather shy way: fige...and i'm like :i'm sorry..what??! figu he said now a bit impacient. You mean Figo ! yes he replied ! the flair player ...and you know you made it when you 're admired in the 4 corners of the world...As for Scolari:

I hope he stays and prove some people wrong. As he did in 2002 with the Brasilians .They struggled to qualify but end up wining that tournament.I'm trying to remain positive 'cause it's not all over yet...

As for the love of the game it actually started by chance as i was in Paris in 1998 when the french won .And the atmosphere totally blew me away ...portugal didn't even qualify for that one but by the end of the holidays i was already addicted to the beautiful game.On a final note : Portugal will always have my support, and you're right JP they need it!!

Hi Sandra from UK just wanted to say that I really appreciate your love of the selecao. Even though we may disagree on who the better stiker is the fact remains we both want what's best for the team. And really our players need encouragement not critizism. They all have good and bad games and that includes Scolari of whom we were originally suppose to be commenting on. I hope he stays sa coach.

And in the words of my all time favourite player, Figo, getting rid of Scolari would be taking a step backwards in Portuguese football. Anyways Sandra from UK I've really enjoyed your comments. I could see that your proud of being Portuguese and that your well informed about the beautiful game. Let us keep supporting our team together, especially when they need it most.

I would like to direct a comment towards all those that think Portugal has an easy group. True Portugal was the favourite and in the last few years have performed so well that now we expect so much from them. But don't discredit Serbia formerl

I agree with Sandra on Gomes/Pauleta issue..Gomes scored against good teams Pauleta never ever did..we don't really have a striker..Postiga is garbage, Gomes is a sub, Almeida is a red card waiting to happen.. play our strengths..Ronaldo as striker..Nani..Quaresma on wings and I would like to see Simao shifted into Deco's spot..Maniche behind them from long range.. You would then see some goals

Since that lineup would attack well... the D of Boswingwa - Carvalho - Andrade - Miguel and since one of those backs will be overlapping in attack you need a Sweeper who won't sherk their Defensive duties which is why we have looked so weak in the back of late.. Petit-Fernandes-Tiago all like to rove instead of solidify the back..so I would play a Meira or Rocha in a defense only holding role.

Hi J.P !I do know about Pauleta's sucess in Paris saint-Germain and for the national side as somehow he even managed to surpass the great Eusebio with 47 goals for Portugal. But i also remember that when the actual tournament started we were left with this feeling of frustration as he failed to score so often...on the other side here comes Nuno Gomes, not a top scorer ...

But the one who was there in several matches when we most needed a goal. The best example really being that one against Spain in 2004 as we were the hosts ,and how embarrassing it would have been if we were out before even reaching the quater finals...Also the only one to score against France in 2000,Scored the winner against England in the same tournament,so i do respect him

....And hope if we're qualify that he's part of that team as i dont really see better options. As for Hugo Almeida i haven't seen him playing yet but if he's that good Scolari would give him a chance,'cause at the end of the day we all want the same :Portu

I'm not a huge Nuno Gomes fan but I find some of comments unfair between Nuno Gomes and Pauleta. Pauleta was a great finisher but besides one or two games came up short in big tournaments and benefitted from weak competition in qualifying games. Nuno Gomes has scored some big goals for Portugal like in Euro 2000 and 2004. Neither are the ideal strikers Portugal needs to win a major tournament.

Hi Sandra from the UK. I agree with you on most things but not the Nuno Gomes, Pauleta comparison. There are obvious reasons why a coach would choose one player over another, usually because that one is likely to perform as is the case to why Pauleta was chosen to play over Nuno Gomes. Pauleta is a consistent performer his record in France speaks for itself. Nuno Gomes hardly scores for Benfica

I have to admit though that Nuno Gomes strengths are when the team is under pressure to score. That's why he was played as a substitute. He's unable to perform the full 90 minutes. I,m not a coach but if I could I would play Hugo Almeida. He's young, energetic, can play the full 90, has an eye for goal, and is playing so well for his club Werder Bremmen in Germany.

Nuno Gomes couldn't score as many goals as Pauleta because he was left out.He was absolutely brilliant in Euro 2000 alongside Figo.He also saved our backsides in euro 2004 with that so important goal against Spain and the only one who managed to score in the last match against Germany in 2006.Pauleta was good in the qualyfing process but quite dissapointing when the actual tournament started...

just wanted to mention to Ali from UAE, to get his facts straight. Pauleta is the highest goal scorer in the histoy of the portuguese national team and was the highest goal scorer in all of europe during the world cup qualifying round. Nuno gomes doesn't even come close.
pauleta is the missing piece of the puzzle to why they are having a hard time qualifying. No one to fill his shoes.

i think its time too let go scolari cuase look at portugal right now there 3rd in the group with 4 matches left they must win every match in order to qualify i say let him go plus he hasnt been playin the real talent of portugal like quaresma, moutinho, postiga, ferriera, meira and nani let them play. now that hes out for 4 matches i hope portugal will do better!!!!!

Orlando ,Mourinho and Abromovich were at each others throats for a long time .He didn't leave to go and coach Portugal. He might end up doing that after the euro 2008,but not now.Scolari was apparently fined 12.000 euros and banned for the next 4 matches but he will stay till the end of 2008 which is when his contract ends .

My impression is that he was invited to leave after this last poor results because now Abromovich had an excuse to the fans to get rid of him.Knowing Mourinho he will do anything now to have the last laugh ,and if that means taking Portugal in 2010 to world cup victory ,then he will have my vote...

A brief statement Blues official website, read: "Chelsea Football Club and José Mourinho have agreed to part company today (Thursday) by mutual consent."

Orlando, none of the top teams have been playing that well,it should be interesting tonight as Man united faces Sporting.I really wish that Sporting and Porto hadn't sell their best players.I suppose it gives me a chance to see them more often at the premiership but it does nothing for the portuguese clubs. As for Mourinho:I'm not inside his head to know what is thinking...

But in one of his last interviews he said that he would only leave Chelsea if he got sacked! He also said that he would like to coach the national side but not in the near future.

He's here for the money, not for the love of England and if you think is going to leave this country in some patriotic act ,then i'll have to agree with you;that you are a bit foolish... but hey let's see what happens after all, only time will tell...

Sandra Chelsea drew another game today against a minnow.. I don't think Mourinho will be at Chelsea long.. perfect timing I would say.. as for the game I don't share your pessimism.. I believe in a beautiful game with no diving.. which Italy never cheats its way to another crown.. maybe I am foolish for my optimism, but when I lived in the UK the Premiership was as close to perfection as possible.

Mourinho is not going to leave Chelsea to coach the national side ,believe you me it wont happen...anytime soon !!Things between him and Abromovish would have to turn very sour for him to leave ...in fact he said that himself in his own words...He would like to manage the national team at some point in his career, perhaps before he retires ,so let's keep Scolari which was the best we had so far

ORLANDO,there's a program that i just watched recently is called world cup's biggest nightmares i suggest you to watch it if you have the chance.Violence ,cheating it's been happening for a long time, and my opinion is :it wont change 'cause is just part of human nature. The 1st scene is with Andreas escobar who was murdered 10 days after scoring a own goal in 1994...

AGHADIUNO great point..the fact is that he lied repeatedly..1 he was protecting his player.. 2 the Serb called his mom a name leading to the punch.. but you can clearly see and hear that the Serb only did that after he took a swing at him... How old do you have to be.. to be a man and own up to your errors.. and what example does he show his team who were there and heard otherwise..

Truth is he thought he was going to get away with it..not until there was backlash from the fans..the Sports Minister insisted on a review as well as UEFA that he appealed to all with a heartfelt apology..truth is his arrogance was counting on more blind faith than he received..

Scolari also has a habit of talking about Portuguses players like we don't have any depth or quality.. all to self promote.. we only lack a world class Striker and a GK..we have the best midfield in the world and a mobile D.. many coaches given what he has.. would drool at the talent on offer and do allot more with the tools at hand.. Sandra I too support our team and always have.. I have travelled many miles to see them play.. last being the U-20 in Montreal.. I blew a transmission in the process.. but managed to get in 3 of the portuguese daily's and on TV with our Portuguese Hardhats and Emergency Lights.. but two wrongs don't make a right.. if we want to be the greatest team on the planet we have to be above the rest..

Sandra I also agree Ronaldo will be the best footballer soon.. and he has come a long way from his early days.. I see him progressing further@ Man U.. but he has to learn he will benefit more from ridding his game of the actions that have developed a bad rep with the Refs.. Youre right that hes a target.. but the calls are going the other way because of his conduct.. he will mature into the best..

We all know that sometimes the BEAUTIFUL GAME turns rather ugly.
But i'll never stop supporting the national side and that includes Cristiano for as long as he plays.Of course he dived in various occasions, but didnt they all?Look at the match we played against France in the semi finals.A clear dive by Thierry Henry but somehow he got away with that.

Sadly the same cant be said about Abel Xavier and his hand ball in euro 2000,no wonder our players were angry...and now is like: Deja vu almost literally...

I also remember the way Cristiano left the pitch limping in 2006 against the Deutch that managed to get ride of him in the 1st half n'hour. But the last threat was actually vocaled by belgium goalkeeper who said that they would put him in a stretcher in the 1st 10 mins of the match. Not to mention the games i've watched in the premiership...

In resume ,he's no saint but he does get targeted and he's a bloody good player!I agree with you in one thing :Carvalho!Great defender pro

One thing is making a mistake;another thing is realising your mistake, and making it right(apologising).Scolari has sincerely swallowed his pride to apologize. What else are we looking for? Like he rightly said "i am not infallible".As human beings, we must misbehave sometimes but the question is:what do you do after that? Scolari has come back to his senses.I suggest he should be forgiven.

UEFA nations which included the Final Four of the WC in Italy, France, Germany, & Portugal.. the biggest divers in the WC.. the king being Italy hence their victory... also noted that Holland (another UEFA nation) and Argentina too should be noted for their exceptional diving and simulating tactics...

I am happy to say that UEFA has started to suspend players for such video reviews...

    Our strengths are 4-1-2-3
    Quim
    Boswingwa-Carvalho-Andrade-Miguel
    Meira
    Maniche-Sabrosa
    Quaresma-Ronaldo-Nani
That is our strength... We have been missing a sweeper but have a surplus of mobile CDF, Deco Has been poor, Simao is better down the middle, Nani is the best on form yet no action.. Maniche is needed long range. Ronaldo is a pure striker... A real coach would make this happen..

We are better than most of the rest... why should we resort to childish tactics or unsportsmanlike conduct...

you must think very little of our proud country and sporting nation...

"starting with the dives that Cristiano is often accused"

Accused... try Guilty of... diving is not part of the game.. contrary to what allot of people think...

After the last atrocious World Cup I personally wrote UEFA about taking care of their own house by reviewing video tape after games and if a player was found to dive intentionally... that they be suspended and emarassed in the media

    1-Kick Scolari out
2-or Force Scolari to get the old stars. Rui Costa -you all saw his wonderfull goal for Benfica on 15/9/2007 3- keep deco and C.Ronaldo out untill they come back to theri sences. C.Ronaldo needs to play more with team.we need a better focuses Deco.

I blamce scolario for killing the 2000 team .
1- He got rid of Sergio Concesio2-He did invite Rui Costa.
What was his mistakes in WC2006?1-Counted on Pauleta even though Nuno Gomez proved his far better even in the qualification games. And he proved that even in the third/fourth ranking game
2- And against Germany wc2006. He just did not care and gave them the match.

Any coach who loses his cool and attacks another player like Scolari did should be punished accordingly. Scolari has lost control of his team and now his emotions. Portugal has the best team hands down in their group, and are in third place. A move needs to be made to replace him.

Scolari has done a wonderful job with the national team, 2nd in 2004 4th in worldcup, 1st in 2010. the team is missing a leader on the field and that is probably what is hurting them, there isnt a figo out there to push the players, scolari needs a replacement or maybe think about bringing figo back. the portugal/serbia game should be replayed on neutral territory, spain for example.

Well,Orlandomac if you are embarrassed to be Portuguese dont watch the team at all,it's simple!
I'm actually quite proud of my country even knowing that they are struggling to qualify to Euro2008.Sure we're hot tempered,it's part of being a latin nation. We tend to speak with our hands, curse ,argue with the referees decisions etc...but at least we're not cynical...

And if we are judging the players discipline, look at soccer history:
starting with the dives that Cristiano is often accused i just have to look at my old tapes to laugh my head off .The present german coach used to dive in such a way that the fans were left wondering if they were watching the olympics or a football match, then there was the spits on a german player by the present barcelona coach

Not to mention David beckham's kick on diego siemone,Zidane head butt on the italian player the way argentinian players left this last world cup, trading punches with the germans,if you analyze all this, we're not so bad after all...

I'm not Portuguese, but can't believe people criticise Scolari. In the last three years he's given you the 2nd best team in Euro 2004, and the 4th best team in the World Cup! As for the incident against Serbia, hopefully the truth will come out shortly; but British players have experienced problems with Eastern European teams regarding racial abuse etc, so there is a history there.

Everyone makes mistakes. if it wasn't for scolari portugal couldn't be as good as it is. He lead Brazil to a world cup and the man is getting job offers left and right i think he knows what he's doing. Portugal needs to stop giving up cheap points. portugal to win the world cup 2010

As for those fans chiming on Scolari's results I remind you we were in the late rounds of two previous Euro tournaments before he ever got there... Portugal needs a strong Manager who brings strength and stability through defence not a passionate coach we have enough passionate flair oriented players to fill two teams With Chelsea drawing today Mourinho could be in charge sooner rather than later

Portugal has a very bad reputation with discipline and it is starting to affect the decisions in the games as you could see in the last bunch of games we are known as divers and hot heads

It is time the Portuguese Federation cleans up its own house

I am embarassed to be Portuguese

Punching/Pulling Referees Taking Red Cards out of their hands gesticulating red cards everytime there is a minor foul
pushing/kicking opponents surrounding game officials and especially diving and simulating should be stamped out of our game by our FA

Scolari's actions further dishonour our proud nation and then repeatedly lieing to cover up his deeds and blaming match officials for a game that we should have won handly it was not the offside goal that cost us it is the inferior coaching

We have the best team in the History of our small nation and Scolari will make sure that we gain nothing out of it he simply makes poor decisions in all contexts including throwing a punch at the Serbian player.

If Scolari actually punched him then maybe he should have been criticized more but he "brushed his cheek". Big deal. This guy took Portugal to the finals of Euro 2004 and the Semi's of the World Cup. Victory in Euro 2008 with him but if you fire him, who will take over? Mourinho isn't leaving Chelsea this year!!!

I think it's stupid for the Portuguese people and the Portuguese papers to crucify this man. Yes I havent always agreed with his substitutions and such, but he has been the best coach in Portuguese soccer history and to just throw away his accomplishments like it's nothing is ridiculous. Scolari stays and rallys us to the Euro final.

HE WILL STAY FOR SURE!! He's one of the best Managers Portugal ever had...everyone makes mistakes even the best coach ever so i think it's really unfair if they sack him *remember what he have done in World Cup 2006* adn after Euro another World Class coach i wish to be 'Jose' Mourinho' hope they choose him after Scolari resigns after Euro 2008. PORTUGALOOOO FOREVER!!

The real tragedy was how the Serbian goal was allowed... The guy was offside by at least three feet... It's unbelievable that the refs didn't catch that... As for Scolari, he got caught in the moment... No big deal... Scolari stays...

Scolari is the best thing that ever happened to Portugal. The only coach to take them to a european final and to a semi-final at a world cup. We all screw up once and a while especially under pressure. Let's not forget all the good he's done. He lifts the teams spirits, motivates them to play, and even defends them. I say forgive and forget, encourage him and the team, and renew his contract.

Tell Joca from Holland to stick it in his ass. He shouldn't comment on something he doesn't understand. If he really is portuguese as he says, then he should recall all the victories Scolari has given Portugal. Obviously he didn't watch 2006 world cup or the 2004 Euro cup plus the quallifying rounds to get to them.

I like Scolari and i hope he stays till the end of Euro 2008.
He took one or two decisions concerning the team that i dont agree but i'm not in his shoes ,feeling all the pressure.I also remember that he took the national team to their 1st european final and that should mean something !So instead of being ungrateful let's give the man a chance and support him...

Soccer is a game full of passion, and desire. Players, coaches, and fans cannot stop from getting caught up in this whirlwind of futbol. Both Scolari and the Seleção das Quinas have given us the best futbol we seen in years. We need to chill. Let's watch Scolari coach, players play, and as a fan I will watch the drama un-fold on the pitch. Will you be there?..EURO 2008.. FORCA PORTUGAL!....

One swing is certainly not worth expulsion from the team.. If anything validated dismissal, it would be our string of poor showings, but I don't think anything would be served by changing coaches at this stage, so Scolari should stay.

He has afterall brought us the success the Golden Generation were meant to.

Scolari made a mistake. I'm disappointed by this and the team has played very poorly, but he should remain as coach through EURO 2008. The Portuguese players and coaches need to learn to keep their cool because teams will continue to rattle our cage and use this against us. We tend to be very unlucky and we then behave in a pissy way. Let's stick to the game and win.

i think scolari should given a chance. we all get nervous and make mistakes thats how we learn by our mistakes. I think this would not happen if national team would stop playing around and win. every time portugal is winning by 1 point they think they won and they slow down the game. portugal screws up the open opportunities to score. TO PORTUGAL NATIONAL TEAM PLAYERS STOP MESSING AROUND. ATTACK!

Crucify Scolari? Are you kidding me? Portugal has gone farther under him then ever before. We need to stop panicking - we will qualify for the finals. Losing Scolari now would be a disaster. As for Mourinho, I hope he is the next national team coach, but not until AFTER Euro 2008.
  • Paulo, Australia
    14/09/2007 13:49
I think that Portugal will still qualify , however I dont think Scolari should leave. He should not have done what he did, but sometimes in football emotions & passion take control.
I do think that scolari needs to stop being so tactically predictable..bring on a second striker striker instead of trying to play C Ronaldo as one.Its not working!!!!

I have just seen the incident on U tube. I was aware of what happened on Wednesday night and of course dissapointed with the result! Scolari cannot of course be excused for his behaviour but I guess it shows just how passionate he is for our team and country! Let's put this behind and make sure above all else that we make it to the finals! I just want to cheer on my team and country once again!

Scolari has given Portugal many happiness and victories. He must stay for in the minumam until Euro 2008. I think he then goes to be England coach and the stupid journalists shall have to see he is very good.

People seem to forget that Scolari has taken PORTUGAL to where is has never been before: Final of EURO 2004 & Semi Final WC 2006. This incident will unite PORTUGAL and we will qualify for EURO 2008

I'm not Portuguese and have no connection to the country but I admire the way the team plays and the level of skill of the Portuguese players. I think Scolari has done a wonderful job for you. Unlike most other national teams, Portugal seem willing to put the emphasis on attack, that's why they are popular among non-Portuguese football fans. Hope you get to the European Championships. Good luck.

I am portuguese and ashamed of Scolari. He has the best Portuguese players ever but is number 3 in an easy group. Now this. Put Mourinho in charge NOW
. Then we may even have a chance of winning the World Cup 2010.
  • Joao, Paris

I think all this confusion will help Portugal getting still stronger. The team and coaches will unite and Portugal will start playing great again. it culd be the turning point to win the Euro. Força Portugal!!
