FC Porto complete signing of Brazilian starlet Edgar

Former Beira-Mar striker delighted with move to champions

Edgar

Young Brazilian striker Edgar has completed his switch to Portuguese champions FC Porto from relegated Beira-Mar. The 20-year-old hitman has signed a one-year loan deal with the club with an option for an additional three seasons.

Much confusion had arisen regarding the Brazilian’s destination next season with Benfica at first expected to sign him before Porto made their move for the promising forward. Benfica subsequently issued a statement claiming that they never had an interest in the player.

Edgar himself has stayed well clear of involving himself in the behind-the-scenes shenanigans, and is delighted to have made the move to Porto:

“It’s the ambition of any player. I feel fulfilled to be at a club like FC Porto, but I will not rest on my laurels. I must show that I deserve to be here and my intention is to give it my best.”

“I’m going to do what I know best because I want to gain the admiration of the fans as quickly as possible,” said the beanpole striker who made such a good impression following his January transfer to Portugal.

Edgar added the fact that the reigning champions will participate in the Champions League was another decisive aspect in him wanting to join the Dragons.

“This is fabulous! It’s the best and most attractive club competition in the world.”

Porto have undoubtedly picked up a promising talent who will push his team-mates hard to become a regular in Jesualdo Ferreira’s starting XI.

The wily coach now has a formidable array of forwards to select from in Edgar, Lisandro Lopez, Adriano, Helder Postiga, Bruno Moraes and Renteria.
