Laionel signs for Setubal

Forward switches from Boavista to Uefa Cup participants

Vitoria Setubal have made their second signing in as many days as the club secured striker Laionel for the upcoming season.

The forward, who was on loan with Boavista last season, has signed another loan as the Sadinos were able to thrash out a deal with Laionel’s parent club, Gremio de Anapolis.

The 22-year-old made a total of 20 appearances for the Black Panthers, scoring 3 goals, and had previously expressed his desire to remain in Portugal for another season. The Brazilian got his wish as he becomes the Setubal’s second signing after full-back Aly Cissokho.

Not only will Laionel represent another top-flight club in Portugal, but he will also have the opportunity to participate in European competition as Vitoria Setubal qualified for next season’s Uefa Cup, which was another deciding factor behind why he chose to move to Vitoria.
