Luiz Felip Scolari discussionIs the Brazilian the right man to have at the helm?
Luiz Felipe Scolari has brought Portugal unprecedented success since taking over the national team in 2003, reaching the final of Euro 2004 and the semi-finals of World Cup 2006.

All his qualities and foibles aside (in pure football terms) I do not see how Luizão can but fail at Chelsea. His downfall will be (like Avram's) a failure to communicate a vision and a psychological attitude; though, unlike Avram, he has got them to communicate. Like Eça's Korriscos character, a great lyrical poet ... but only in Greek. I give him one season, tops.

I have said it from the day he was selected. Overated and Goodbye.
You have 2 years max at Chelsea

Scolari = great coach, though tonight he came up a little short.
It'll be difficult to find someone suitable to replace him, unless Guus Hindink is available.

what i wrote before i regret. I was just mad on are results during qualifing but now i see he was just trying the weaker players out first.
In the end it all worked out vs turkey im sorry scolari thank you for the result and the recent campaigns.

Typical Portuguese garbage is being spewed. Where was this team before scolari got here? No where. It was a garbage squad trying to make a transition from its WC 2002 debacle. Portuguese people are never satisfied with anything and that's one think I dispise about our culture. Scolari put this team on the map as a threat, before we were known as choke artists. The man came in to Brazil and took them from 4th in qualifying all the way to a world cup win. Seriously people, you bring up all our talent, but you need a good coach to utilize that talent which scolari has done and previous coaches havent. Overrated? Hilarious.

I do agree that having the core of portos champions league squad was a luxury..tho.

He's done more for the selecao than anyone.. his formations DO work for us.. WE ARE A VERY HARD TEAM TO BEAT.
With that said, our strikers are almost soley to blame.. and a few frangos from ricardo... our mid can only cover our strikers ass so much and for so long.

In some ways Scolari has been good for Portuguese football. He has made qualification for major tournaments a formality which was not the case in the past. However, I will never forgive him for losing(twice)to Greece at home when player for player Portugal (was and is)a better team.

I think Scolari should of left after 2006. I personally think he's overated.
Why? because in Euro 2004 and the World Cup 2006 Scolari was lucky to have players that new how to play good football! There wasn't much to say about the players. We had leaders like Figo and Rui Costa.I also think if we played Rui Costa over Deco we would of won!
In 2006 he didn't even really have much to show the guys we already had the experience on are side with Figo,Deco,Maniche,Costinha and Carvalho. Playing Pauleta was a bad decision in fact i think hes Overated to maybe just as much as Scolari!Pauleta didn't score for us when we needed it ,ya he scored 9 goals in qualifying but against teams like Estonia do they even exist!Pauleta scored 1 goal in 2006 thats Horrible i could of scored more then him!The game vs Germany Pauleta had atleast 2 good chances to put the ball in the net but he went for the perfect shot i would of powered that thing past Kahn.
Look at the first game till the last game vs Greece. The game vs Belgium and Brazil were are best games all year.
I think God was on are side threw the whole Qualifing Stage! Scolari did nothing to improve the situation he made things worse by punching that one serbian player and got suspended for 3 games. When Portugal played belgium and Brazil we were just lucky to win like that! At some moments when Scolari was gone for those 3 games it seemed we were a better team overall! Think about it!

I like what Scolari has done for Portuguese football, he's made us smarter defensively and tougher. However, I think we need a new manager for us to take the next step. Someone who will bring out the best in our creative offensive ability, something that scolari really isn't interested in.

I really want Scolari to leave Portugal. He's not good coach for this team with that kind of players
people say portugal was second in 2004 but i think that is not because of scolari. almost whole midfield was created by players who won in 2004 champions league. even very weak coach would put figo, pauleta or ricardo into first eleven
scolari should have shown his quality in last qualification but he didn't

Orlando, you're entitled to your own opinion like everybody else.
At least your criticism is constructive. But i just think that you're wrong about Scolari. That throphy in 2004 wasn't lost as a direct result of Scolari's tactics. It was lost because of our mental weakness. The pressure of being the host Nation for the 1st time and also being in the 1st final proved to be too much.Gosh, we were so close. And it kills me to see some average team walk away with what should be ours Ironically in our own soil.Life does have a cruel sense of humour. I'm just hoping that now that the team is used to get to the semis they have enough belief to finally cross that line.

Sandra from the UK I take it you are waiting for me to eat my words on Scolari, you love to hate me lol. Like I have always stated I don't think he is the right mgr for Portugal although I respect his tourny play but his qualification lacks a great deal because of his lazy approach. I think he makes poor decisions to start but then adapts extremely well. You will see that again in this tourny, I just hope he reacts quick enough.

Scolari ain't no idiot. He was in fact a world Champion with Brazil. And if i remember well took us to our first European final. Now, we can all say that with our gifted players we would get there anyway, but i disagree.I think when he leaves, some people may have to swallow their own words.
