Benfica reject Chelsea bid for David Luiz - reportDefender delighted with Brazil chance Benfica have reportedly rejected a €32m bid from Chelsea for David Luiz, as the defender was handed his first international call-up by new Brazil coach Mano Menenzes.
Menezes named a 24-man squad for his first match in charge of the South American champions against USA next month, and there were several call-ups for Brazil’s next generation. Along with the likes of Rafael (Manchester United) and Santos duo Neymar and Ganso, Benfica’s David Luiz was also included in the group. “I am very happy and excited with this call,” he told the club’s official website. “It was a goal and a dream in my life. I’ll make the most of this opportunity.” It appears increasingly likely that Luiz will still be a Benfica player when he makes his international bow, with Benfica apparently determined to retain his services for the new campaign in the face of interest from English clubs Manchester City and Chelsea. According to Record, the Eagles have rejected an offer in the region of €32m from Chelsea for the 23-year-old. Previously, Man City had made an approach worth €35m, with a €3m annual salary for Luiz, but were also turned down by Benfica, who refuse to negotiate below their reported €40m valuation. Meanwhile, Ramires, who was also called into the latest Brazil squad, is expected back in Lisbon today after enjoying some time off following the World Cup. Unlike Luiz, the midfielder is still expected to leave the Estadio da Luz in the near future, with Chelsea remaining his most likely destination. Remember it is only a buyout clause. that's all it is.
Messi's is 250million euros, CRon's is 1.4billion euros......are they worth it? NO.
If a team wants to pay 250mil for messi, then Barca can't stop him from going. BUT with 250mil, Barca could buy 2 full squads. lol
Now 32 million euros is alot of money don't get me wrong but Benfica is also trying to save their new season he was our best central defender of last year and going into the Champions League can even make his value higher, so I'm glad that he's staying at least one more year.
Anyway, I think that the reports are false and that Vieira would not turn down that amount of cash.
That being said, I am shocked that Benfica wouldn't have sold Luiz for anything over 25 mil, nevermind 30 mil. I for one, am thrilled that Luiz is staying since our backline has no real backups and needed to stay intact. Peixoto apparently is always hurt, Sidney showed inadiquate last season, Faria is new to the squad, and Amorin is really a midfielder.
With the backline staying, it will also provide Jesus with options. If he feels Faria is up to the task, he can slide Luiz to the left and move Coentrao to his natural position as left mid, should Gaitan or anyone else fails to solidify the spot. I feel that Coentrao could work well with Luiz on that side. Then again vs Monoco, Coentrao had a beautiful give a go with Gaitan that led to Cardozo's goal.
I'm not sure where the money is coming from, but I really want to see this squad preform in the Champions League. We just might get a favorable group and then anything can happen with the draws.
I also feel that this seasons Portuguese campaign will be much tougher. Porto will take over Braga's role last season and Sporting has to be better, no?
The problem for them is that he soon could be found out in the champions league as he has never had to play against major quality strikers and then his fee would surely go down and they will regret not taking these offers from city and chelsea.
Goddamned Manchester City with their bulging pockets have ruined the transfer market for every club.
