Ukra and Marco Ramos join Braga as Arsenalistas continue squad overhaul

Guilherme announces himself with majestic goal

Braga badgeBraga continue to do major surgery to their squad this winter transfer window. Following the exit of a plethora of squad members, among them star men Matheus and Luis Aguiar, the Arsenalistas began training this week with two new faces.

Concerns among fans of the northern club about a weakened squad will have been somewhat relieved with the acquisition of Porto’s exciting prospect, Ukra. The Portugal U21 international followed up excellent seasons on loan at Olhanense and Varzim with sporadic performances for the Dragons this year.

But Ukra, 22, wants more playing time and has agreed to a one and half season loan at the Estadio AXA. “Ukra is an excellent player who will be a big help to us. It was only possible to do this deal thanks to the good understanding that has been built between FC Porto and Sporting Braga in recent years. I’m grateful to the Porto president,” said Braga counterpart, Antonio Salvador.

Also joining the ranks under Domingos Paciencia is full-back Marco Ramos. The 27-year-old defender was born in France but has dual nationality as both of his parents were born and brought up in the Braga region. “My parents are from Braga and live here so that’s another reason why I’m proud to make this move,” said the ex Lens player.

“I’m very enthusiastic about this great opportunity. The achievements of Sporting Braga have had enormous repercussions all over Europe. I feel privileged to wear this shirt,” Ramos told the club’s website.

Guilherme making waves

Meanwhile, young Brazilian prospect Guilherme is starting to show why Braga fought so hard to sign him from Paraiba do Sul. Braga have 70 per cent ownership of Guilherme, and the 19-year-old has been touted as one to watch by the Portuguese football press.

Domingos has used him in midfield and defence, and the player who began his career as futsal player announced himself to fans with a majestic goal in the 2-2 draw against Vitoria Setubal on Saturday.

Good signings. If we want to keep on top and be fighting for the title they need to start making a team again.

You are right on the money Mdot.
We are a sellers league, and that's the only way a team is going to make headway, if it wants to.
It saddens me that we have lost the third Champions League spot, and can only hope that we can get it back.
We need Braga, and even Sporting to become relevant again, if not Guimaraes as well.
Maritimo and Nacional always seem to take their turns as contenders, but the league needs more consistency up top.

In any case, I was worried about such a big turnover at the club, but hope I hope that they have righted the ship.
Much needed support

I think this will temporally help Braga with the big gap they have in depth. When they receive the Euro cash in the summer they should consider buying 1-2 quality prospects. The only way this club will grow is if they can keep getting young talent that can perform on the field and then they can sell at a profit. This way they will be able to continue to expand. If they get stuck just getting loan players they will loss this opportunity to make a push at getting some type of title.

Glad to see Braga has seen the light and has good business relations with Porto. Win/win for both clubs. Maybe Braga will reciprocate by giving fcp first option on this Guilherme. amazing goal!
