Deportivo to take up Ze Castro option

Portuguese “grateful for the trust shown in me”

ze castroDeportivo La Coruna intend to exercise their option on Portuguese defender Ze Castro, who is currently on-loan at the Riazor from Atletico Madrid.

According to the club’s official newspaper Depor Sport, the Galicians will spend 2m euros on the 26-year-old, who spent two seasons with Atletico before heading to La Coruna last summer on a season-long deal.

Ze Castro will now be tied to Depor until 2013, although the club share his economic rights with a sports investment company, meaning his long-term future at the club is less certain than it would appear after today’s news.

“There is a time limit for Depor to exercise the option, which depends on the club speaking and making a decision,” Ze Castro told the press, clearly not wanting to take the proposed deal for granted. “When you know there is a buying option and you have a good season, you know people can have an intention, but actually doing it is something different.

“I’m very relaxed. Everything that happens I will face in a normal fashion. From day to day I just want to keep doing as well as I can. Right now I am very happy to be here and will always be grateful for the trust shown in me.

“I can only say I’m very satisfied with the way things have been going here. I cannot say where I will be playing next season, because in football you can never know what the future holds.”

Ze Castro is getting better and the move to Deportivo was good for him and the club.
