Hulk handed 4-month suspension

Sapunaru slapped with 6-month ban

The Liga's Disciplinary Committee has finally pronounced judgement on FC Porto pair Hulk and Sapunaru and both players were hit with lengthy punishments.

The suspensions are a result of incidents that occurred after Porto's loss to Benfica last Decemeber where both players were caught on camera assualting a steward in the tunnels of the Estadio da Luz.

Having already sat out 12 matches in domestic competition, the Brazilian will also miss a further 23 games and will only be made available for Round 28 when Porto face Vitoria Setubal.

The suspension also means that the forward will not be able to participate in the Carlsberg Cup final, nor is he permitted to take part in the semi-final of the Portuguese Cup against Rio Ave.

A press conference is expected to be held later this afternoon by the disciplinary body to explain and clarify the reasons behind their decisions.

As for Benfica's history, most Portuguese titles and ranked 9th in the World by the international football federation - above Porto, Chelsea, ManU, Roma, etc...

OH and Dan. Our soccer league is a way better than the portuguese league. As far as im concerned the only team in portugal worthy of playing in the German league is Porto. Sporting lost 12-1 on aggregate to munich. Benfica cant even beat Berlin.

First of all Hulk sucks he hasn't been doing anything with Porto this year so I don't see this fazes Porto at all. First of all it's a assult charge CAUGHT ON VIDEOTAPE! Enough said Hulk and Sapunaru are guilty. It was obviously that Hulk was frustrated by the game (seeing him crying near the end and Alvaro Pereira too) he was one of the worst players if not the worst player on Porto's side when playing Benfica. So I don't see why Porto fans are attacking Benfica with this nonsense it's Hulk and Sapunaru's own fault. No worries for Porto really most likely they will bounce back.

We'll see what they can or can't afford in the summer trasnfer window. In case you haven't noticed they economy in the Olde Country is struggling to maintain it's Euro membership. Yet O GLORIOSO is setting attedence records at every pitch they step foot on.

As far you comment regarding diving, I personally don't think any self respecting Portuguese can speak to the subject. Our Seleccao is known for their beautiful tactical passing and play and unfortunately for diving and whinning to the officials everytime they're touched by another player. Its kinda sad when a Porto fan has to pretend to be a Benfica fan. Even when Porto wins their fans always seem angry. In short they were caught on video attacking someone, punishment was handed and all Porto fans can do is point to a period of success which was marred by the worst corruption out league has seen. What an embarrassment it was for Portuguese fans watching headlines in the news and on uefa about different scams and now there are more videos showing these acts. Time for a new big 3 - Go Braga!!!

Benfica runs the show with ricardo costa. Braga's president even stated this publicly. This guy ricardo costa has been banning players from braga in the right times. The excuse benfica use to explain these not only 4 years but these last 15 years is that porto bought refs for 15 years. They believe porto bought the uefa champions league as well.

I am not defending Hulk/Sapunaro. Assaulting another person is a crime. The league's suspensions were at least substancial, however should be inconjunction with any charges that should be filed under the law.

However, comments like "Just another example of type of club they have up north, a bunch of classless thugs." is ignorant childish spittballing. It's the type of brainless commentary, that unfortunately is typical of the average fan in a league where supporters are split amongst 3 teams. The league has hardly been worth watching, until this year. Let's hope Braga can change that.

As for Porto, they are the only club in Portugal that does anything in Europe, and consistently builds Portugal's national team players and Portugal's best (currently Carvalho, Pepe, Alves, Bosingwa, Deco) Their team performances should be source of pride to all of Portugal.
