Lightning fast striker on a high after “game of my life” Malaga are hoping to renew the contract of rising star Eliseu Pereira, after the Portuguese’s performance against Recreativo Huelva at the weekend earned him the adulation of the Spanish press.Eliseu, who joined the Andalusian club from Belenenses when they were in the second division, was the chief protagonist in Malaga’s 4-0 win at the Nuevo Colombino on Saturday. Opening the scoring in the first minute, the 25-year-old went on to set up a goal for countryman Duda before getting his second just after the hour. The Azorean forward was nicknamed ‘Eliseu Bolt’ in Spanish daily Marca the following day – a reference to 100-metre record holder Usain Bolt – on account of his blistering pace, while other sections of the country’s footballing press have pointed to Eliseu’s ability to dribble at extraordinary speed, and predicted that he could be one of the revelations of the La Liga season. Astonishing reaction“In the Colombino, I had the game of my life,” Eliseu said of his performance at the home of Malaga’s Andalusian rivals. “I had never before scored two goals in one match, and the reaction of the people in Malaga the next day astonished me. “My speed? They have said to me that I can cover 100 metres in 10.08 seconds, although I have never timed myself. I have never practised athletics. I’ve always been very quick, since I was a child.” The increased spotlight on Eliseu, who was born in the city of Angra, on the Azorean island of Terceira, has led to club officials arranging talks to extend his contract, which currently contains a release clause of just 600,000 euros. The player has offered the club encouragement that he sees his future in Malaga, saying: “I hope to continue for many years in the Spanish league with Malaga. I am very happy because we are working very hard and, little by little, we are gaining the confidence we need to win matches.” Add your comment |
