Forward offered new 5-year deal by La Liga outfit Malaga’s much-coveted Portuguese forward Eliseu says he is yet to make a decision on his immediate future, but has set his sights firmly on an international call-up.The former Belenenses man has been one of the key components in the Analucian club’s impressive first half of the campaign. Having been promoted to Spain’s top flight last season, Malaga find themselves in 9th place in La Liga, with Eliseu notching four goals along the way. “I feel very happy in Malaga, where I have been very well received,” the 25-year-old told Portuguese sports daily, Record. “When I arrived, the club was in the second division and the main objective was to get into the top flight within three years. That aim was achieved in the first year, and now we are very well-placed in the top half of the table. “Without doubt (coming to Spain) was a step forward in my career and the results are there for all to see. I received some proposals from Portugal and Belenenses wanted me to sign for another four years, but the offer from Malaga was superior financially. Beyond that, in sporting terms this has been an enriching experience.” AmbitionEliseu’s form has caught the eye of many neutrals in Spain, and speculation over the Azorean front man’s future has gathered pace after it was revealed that his buyout clause currently stands at a mere 500,000 euros. Despite being put under pressure publicly to sign a new deal at La Rosaleda, Eliseu remains unwilling to commit on his future. “A return to Portugal is not impossible, but I doubt that any club (even the big three) can offer the same financial conditions Malaga have given me when offering a new five-year deal. I am thinking about the proposal, but I still have not decided anything. To be honest, I would like to continue in the south of Spain, where I am very happy, but I am not adverse to more ambitious projects.” “Playing for Portugal? I do not know if I have been watched, but I know that the Spanish league is shown in Portugal. Obviously, Queiroz will be aware of the Portuguese abroad. I want to continue at this level, and hope that one day I will be called to the national team, since that is the dream of any player.” Add your comment |
