Olhanense confident of positive season
Liga Sagres newcomers renovate squad in bid for survival

Keeping within their budget of one million euros, Olhanense have brought in no fewer than eight new faces as they prepare for top flight action after an absence of 35 years. Ventura, Tengarrinha, Rabiola, Sandro, Carlos Fernandes, Gomis, Jailson and Joshua have all been contracted by the Algarve team.
Five of the new signings have come on loan from FC Porto, with coach Jorge Costa’s legendary status at the Portuguese champions no doubt facilitating the deals.
Olhanense president, Isidoro Sousa, has admitted that the club may not be finished here, with two or three new reinforcements likely to be brought in.
“Like all teams that get promoted, our aim is to remain in the top division, fighting for the three points at stake every game.
“Financial prudence continues to be our guiding motto. We’re trying to play the competition within a budget of around one million euros, but this does not mean we can’t play a great championship.
“I’ve told the players that we are representing not only the town of Olhao, but also the whole of the Algarve region so we have to do our best to solidify our presence in the top flight.”
The club’s Jose Arcanjo stadium is undergoing rebuilding work, so the team will only be officially presented to its supporters at the renovated complex in one month’s time, on 8 August.
