Ten-match ban ends Real Madrid defender Pepe’s seasonPortuguese punished for Getafe incident Real Madrid defender Pepe has been handed a ten-match suspension by the Spanish Competition Committee for his altercation with Getafe players in midweek. The Portugal defender was sent off during the closing stages of his side’s 3-2 victory on Tuesday after giving away a penalty for a challenge on Javier Casquero. In the immediate aftermath of the referee’s decision, Pepe aimed two kicks at Casquero as the midfielder lay on the ground, before proceeding to strike fellow Getafe man Albin in the face. Video - Pepe sorry after Getafe incident After taking several days to consider the extent of the player’s punishment, the Spanish league have issued Pepe with a ten-match suspension: four for the altercation with Casquero, four for the incident involving Albin, one for the red card and an one additional ban for insults aimed at the officiating team as he left the pitch. The suspension is the most severe ever issued to a Real Madrid player, with the committee deciding that there was no provocation from opposition players ahead of Pepe’s actions at the Santiago Bernabeu. The verdict means the former Porto stopper will miss the rest of the current campaign, as his team aim to beat Barcelona to the La Liga title, as well as the opening four matches of the 2009/10 season. Pepe what were you thinking? You're a great player and there was no excuse for that behavior. Now let's just put this behind you and start playing great football.
