Sporting drop interest in Ruben Micael and CarlaoSinama-Pongolle signs three and a half year deal On the day Sporting completed the signing of Florent Sinama-Pongolle, two other supposed targets of the Lisbon club appear not to be heading to the Alvalade after all.
French forward Pongolle has signed a contract until June 2013. Sporting paid Atletico Madrid 6.5 million euros for the 25 year old, a fee that could increase a further one million euros depending on the player’s performances.
Having strengthened their defence and attack, Sporting had been strongly linked with a move for Nacional’s Ruben Micael to bolster their midfield options. However, Nacional president, Rui Alves, insists that he has not received an offer from Sporting for the free-scoring Portugal U21 international.
“The only offer that has been made came from a Spanish club, who were willing to pay five million euros for 80 percent ownership of the player. But we don’t want to sell the player now, and Micael himself says he would prefer to stay in Portugal,” said Alves.
Carlao out of Sporting's reach - Leiria presidentAnother president who has curtailed talk of his top player going to Sporting is Uniao de Leiria supremo Joao Bartolomeu. The Lions have a first option on Brazilian striker Carlao, and the marksman has often spoken about his desire to form a partnership with Liedson for Sporting.
“I don’t believe Sporting have the money to better the offer from a big European club who are closely tracking the player and want to buy him at the end of the season,” said Bartolomeu, adding “I had a chat to Carlao and assured him that I would let him leave at the end of the season.”
One player who is on the move is Sporting youngster Wilson Eduardo. The 19-year-old striker is to be loaned out to Liga Vitalis club Portimonense until the end of the season. The young forward is tipped for a big future, and Sporting want the player to gain experience with the Algarve club.

I was hoping Sporting would end up with one of these guys preferably Ruben Micheal although they could of used them both. Carlao is only going to get better as a striker. This is the same old same old in terms of Sporting having interest in a player but just cant pony up enough money to finalize a deal.
