Most Portuguese football fans were firmly focused on the clássico between Porto and Benfica tonight, but earlier in the afternoon Fafe collected another scalp on their sensational run in the Taça de Portugal. The third-tier side are in the semi-finals after beating Braga 2-1.
Goals by João Santos and Carlos Daniel put Fafe 2-0 up, with a late strike by Dorgeles proving just a consolation for the Guerreiros. It completes a hugely disappointing four days for Carlos Vicens’ side, having lost the Taça da Liga final on Saturday night against bitter local rivals Vitóra.
Fafe were good value for their win and have now knocked out three top-tier clubs from the Portuguese Cup, having beaten Moreirense (1-0) and Arouca (2-1) in earlier rounds.
