Vieirinha elected PAOK Player of the Year….again!

Portugal international Vieirinha has been named PAOK Thessaloniki Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after helping the Greek club to a league and cup double in 2018/19.

The club captain won 55.75% of the supporters’ votes in the poll following an historic season in which PAOK were crowned champions for the first time in 34 years with an unbeaten campaign in the Super League. The 33-year-old has spent a combined six seasons with PAOK, with a 5.5-year stint in Germany with Wolfsburg in between, and last season’s historic year has solidified Vieirinha’s iconic status at the club. The former Porto man scored six goals and registered eight assists during the 2018/19 season.

Such is Vieirinha’s influence at the club, when his season was cut short in April with a serious knee ligament injury – the second of his career – the experienced full-back was introduced as a stoppage-time substitute the following week to experience the atmosphere as PAOK hammered Levadiakos 5-0 to clinch the league title.

PAOK hoping for Oliveira stay

Meanwhile, PAOK prepare for next season in the Champions League and the defence of their Greek crown. The Black and Whites have already secured the signing of Brazilian defender Rodrigo Soares from Aves, and now the club’s Portuguese sporting director Mario Branco is keen to secure the signature of another countryman.

Sérgio Oliveira spent the second half of last season on-loan at the Toumba Stadium and PAOK are determined to keep the attacker for next year. Negotiations with Porto have proved difficult, with the Dragons initially demanding €10m for the 27-year-old, but PAOK are hoping to reach a compromise which could result in another loan deal.
