Highest-paid Portuguese footballers, according to betting sites

The Portuguese league features some of the best footballers in the world. So, it’s no surprise that many betting sites have pitched camp there. After all, they can highlight intriguing matches for their worldwide fans, offer competitive odds, and get some good vig from it.

So, punters have a wide variety of betting sites like Campobet where they can wager and make money. It’s a win-win situation. But are the footballers also getting their share of this pie? Let’s find out.

The Highest-Paid Portuguese Footballers

You’ve seen the footballers show up to training, work through injuries, celebrate wins, and mourn their losses. But how much do they get out of all this hard work? Let’s consider what the most valuable footballers in the Portuguese league take home every month:

Otavio Edmilson da Silva Monteiro (€111,000 per week)

Otavio, who plays as an attacking midfielder for FC Porto, is no stranger to the Primeira Liga. He’s been a key player since 2014. And thanks to honing his skills over the years despite the competition from entrants, he’s managed to rack up quite a salary for himself. In a month, he takes home at least €444,000! And that does not include brand endorsements he may have on the side. So, we can assume he takes home at least half a million.

So, what makes him worth this amount? The 27-year-old, who can play through the middle or on the flanks, has scored 27 goals for Porto over 7 seasons, but it is just as much his mix of aggression, tenacity, energy and commitment that makes him such a favourite of coach Sérgio Conceição. He was instrumental in the team winning the Portuguese league in the 2017/18, 2019/20 and 2021/22 seasons, forcing his way into Portugal’s national team and playing in the recent World Cup in Qatar. He still has many years of playing left in him, and if he plays his cards right, he could earn much more in the future!

David Neres (€77,692 per week)

What would you do if you earned €77,692 per week? Some people can only dream of making this much money in a year, let alone a week. But for Neres, this is but his weekly salary!

The 25-year-old Brazilian winger plays for Benfica and is the highest earner at the club. And if you’re wondering what makes him so valuable, how about seven goals in twenty-one appearances? That’s quite an achievement for a player who only joined a few months ago! So, the team and his fans expect him to do even better in the years. Presumably, his weekly salary will also increase with his input.

Francisco Trincão (€75,000 per week)

Trincão has packed a lot into his career at only 22 years of age. He currently plays for Sporting CP on loan from FC Barcelona, and that’s enough to give you an inkling of his prowess. Francisco is a skilled winger who can work on both flanks.

He is still adapting to life back in Portugal after playing in Spain and England, but the fact that 6 goals and 3 assists in 30 appearances for the Lisbon club is seen as somewhat disappointing tells you how high expectations are for him. The winger played in all group-stage matches in the UEFA Champions League and scored two goals.

Other Top Salaries

Below are other players whose salaries deserve a spotlight:

  1. João Mário, 29-year-old midfielder who plays for Benfica, makes €74,038 per week,
  2. Mateus Uribe, who plays for FC Porto, earns €55,577 per week, and
  3. Julian Draxler, a Benfica player on loan from PSG, takes home €55,300 per week.

Many other players in the Primeira Liga take home salaries within the €10,000 to €50,000 range.

Getting a Share of the Lion’s Pie

Clearly, Portuguese footballers get what they deserve, and then some. And while we can’t all be footballers and rake in similar salaries, fans can also make money out of football. “How?” you ask. – By placing wagers on reputable betting sites! It’s as simple as:

  1. Find the right betting site,
  2. Do your research, and
  3. Only wager what you can afford to lose.

Follow this ABC method, and you are on the road to making yourself a handy extra income.
