Porto 2-1 Moreirense - Dragons overcome early deficit to stay top in Liga Portugal

Porto conceded their first goal in six games this season but eventually overpowered Moreirense at Estádio do Dragão.

Francesco Farioli’s side wasted no time getting on top , Pablo Rosario's shot deflected wide but it was the visitors who should have taken the lead in the 12th minute.

A loose pass from Gabri Veiga was pounced on by Alexandre Parsemain who raced into the box and decided not to shoot, his weak pass to João Veloso easily defused by the Dragons’ defence.

Moreirense got another chance in the 20th minute and made no mistake. Veloso got forward and delivered a cross that was volleyed home by Dinis Pinto.

Porto bounced back, William Gomes’ shot turned wide by André Ferreira before the Brazilian won a free kick. He sent it into the danger área where Jan Bednarek rose highest and headed home.

The momentum was maintained after half-time as Porto took the lead in the 58th minute. They went straight through the midddle, Victor Froholdt releasing Pepê who saw his cross converted by Gomes.

Froholdt missed two opportunities from point blank range which kept the visitors believing. Yan Lincon went close before Diogo Costa made a fantastic save to deny Pinto.

The game was halted after a distressing incident involving Froholdt. He was hit in the head by Guilherme Liberato’s elbow and shoulder, the midfielder knocked out and stretchered off the pitch.

Santiago Gimenez tested Ferreira twice after coming off the bench, the new signing impressing after signing on loan from AC Milan.

Porto closed it out, ending the contest with a dominant 70% possession, 23-7 shots and 2.90-0.85 xG.
