Benfica clocked up their 14th win in their last 15 matches in all competitions with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Alverca at the Estádio da Luz on Monday night.
In a game of few chances, a penalty shortly after half time won by substitute Claudio Echeverri and converted by Vangelis Pavlidis proved the difference.
The victory moves the Eagles to within five points of leaders FC Porto.
