Portugal 4-0 New Zealand

Despite making five changes from the team that beat Russia on Wednesday, Portugal were far too strong for New Zealand in the final Group A game of the Confederations Cup this afternoon.

Goals by Cristiano Ronaldo (penalty), Bernardo Silva, André Silva and Nani gave the Seleção a thumping 4-0 victory, the only negative being a yellow card picked up by Pepe ruling him out of the semi-final.

Portugal have an extra day's rest than their next opponents - almost certainly Germany or Chile - who they will play on Wednesday evening for a place in the final.

Portugal 4-2 Macedonia

Portugal’s U21 squad gave it a good effort but a 4-2 victory against a stubborn Macedonian side in Gdynia, Poland on Friday night was not enough to remain in contention for a semi-final berth.

After the defeat to Spain earlier this week, Rui Jorge’s squad knew heading into their final group match that only a resounding victory by three or more goals, in addition to scoring four, was needed to overtake Slovakia as the best 2nd place finisher while awaiting results in Group C on Saturday.

In the end, Portugal fall in the group stage after just missing out on the title on penalties to Sweden in the final of this competition two years ago in the Czech Republic.

Russia 0-1 Portugal

Portugal took a huge step towards the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup with a 1-0 victory over tournament hosts Russia at the Otkrytiye Arena in Moscow this afternoon.

An early Cristiano Ronaldo header was scant reward for the Seleção after a dominant first half, with the recalled Bernardo Silva and Adrien Silva both outstanding.

Russia started to apply increasing pressure in the second half, and with Portugal missing a host of chances it needed commanding displays by Pepe and Bruno Alves to ensure the win did not escape Fernando Santos's men.

Portugal 1-3 Spain

Portugal's U21 Euro 2017 campaign is hanging by a thread after the Seleção were beaten 3-1 by Spain in Gdynia, Poland tonight.

Rui Jorge's men started strongly but Spain scored from their first effort at goal from Saul Ñíguez midway through the first half, and it was La Roja's incisiveness in attack in a high-quality match that made the difference.

Sandro Ramírez doubled Spain's lead on the hour mark, but substitute Bruma gave Portugal hope with a sensational volley on 77 minutes. A tiring Portugal failed to fashion chances for an equaliser though, and a mistake in the dying moments by Rúben Semedo was punished by Iñaki Williams to confirm the victory for Spain.
