Roma 3-3 Juventus

Portugal international Chico Conceição made headlines on Sunday evening with a sensational strike as Juventus came from 3-1 down to earn a late point against Roma in Serie A.

A fantastic match between the rivals in Italian capital saw six goals shared, with Juventus relieved to emerge with a draw having been 3-1 down with 12 minutes remaining. Conceição’s brilliant half volley had tied the score at 1-1 a few minutes after the re-start, which the former Porto man admits drew praise from his family members after the final whistle.

“My brothers sent me the video of the goal as soon as I got into the changing room, they said well done,” reveleaded Conceição, who has scored 4 goals in 32 appearances this season.

“I like to take risks, I go for it. I had some opportunities to score goals before this that I didn’t take, but fortunately today the goal helped the team. That is the most important thing.

“In order to reach the next level, I certainly need to score more goals. I am the first to acknowledge that, I am working hard on it in training, I know that playing for Juve, you need to be more effective in front of goal. I am the first to be upset when I don’t score.

“I have to be the first defender, start the press, go into challenges. Spalletti asks me to play for the team, tells me my quality will emerge eventually if I do that.”

The draw was crucial for Juventus in their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. The Bianconeri remain four points off Roma in 4th place, meaning the comeback was vital in avoiding drifting seven points from top 4. Juventus are in 6th place, one point behind Como in 5th. Due to poor Italian performance in UEFA competition this term, 5th is unlikely to be enough for a Champions League spot.

“It was a good goal, but I am much happier with what we did after going 3-1 down, as it was much more difficult then,” Conceição said. “The team worked really hard, and I feel if any team deserved to win it, then it was us, as we had some really clear chances.”
