Portuguese abroad goals round-up: João Félix ends drought; Vitinha golaço in Italy; Samú Costa nets winner; Cancelo shines for Barca; Guedes irrepressible; Vieira magic in Germany; Bernardo marks landmark with goal

The bulk of Portuguese abroad goals this weekend were concentrated in the major leagues, with Luso exports finding the net in Spain, Italy, England and Germany with an emphasis on important goals.

Elsewhere, João Félix has re-found form in Saudi Arabia, breaking his goal drought with a brace for Al Nassr in the Pro League, where Portuguese duo Antunes and Toze were responsible for a damaging defeat for Sérgio Conceição’s champions Al Ittihad.

Vitinha (Genoa)

Former Braga forward Vitinha is the man of the moment at Genoa in Serie A. The former Portugal U21 international came off the bench to score a winner against Roma last weekend and Vitinha repeated the feat in Genoa’s victory at Verona this weekend. With the game level at 0-0, Vitinha was introduced on 59 minutes and with almost his first touch scored a sensational goal to put Genoa on their way to a 2-0 win.

Gonçalo Guedes (Real Sociedad)

Another player earning plaudits is Gonçalo Guedes. The winger has been one of the revelations of La Liga in recent months, recapturing the type of form which made him a star of Spanish football with Valencia. Guedes scored twice on Sunday in Sociedad’s 3-1 win over Osasuna, bringing him to 9 goals from 32 appearances in all competitions.

João Cancelo (Barcelona)

João Cancelo scored his first goal back at Barcelona as the Catalans defeated Sevilla 5-2 at Camp Nou. Cancelo, who was deployed at left-back, got Barca’s 5th on the night just ahead of the hour mark, showing good composure after a powerful run from deep, as his team remain four points clear at the top of La Liga.

Samú Costa (Mallorca)

Also in Spain, midfielder Samú Costa continues to stand out for islanders Mallorca. The ex-Braga man scored an 88th-minute winner to give his team a 2-1 victory over Espanyol, strengthening their fight for survival. Costa, 25, is widely tipped to leave Mallorca in the summer, with a long list of suitors across the continent.

Bernardo Silva (Manchester City)

Bernardo Silva made his 295th Premier League appearance for Manchester City against West Ham United, which meant he drew level with Luis Boa Morte as the Portuguese with the most matches played in England’s top-flight. Bernardo marked the occasion with a goal as City were held to a 1-1 draw, although many doubted whether the first-half goal was intentional.

Fábio Vieira (Hamburg)

One of the most eye-catching goals of the weekend was Fábio Vieira’s opener as Hamburg drew 1-1 with Koln in Germany. The on-loan Arsenal midfielder produced a deft lob to open the scoring, although his team were pegged back and had to settle for a draw. Vieira now has four goals in his last eight matches in the Bundesliga.

João Félix (Al Nassr)

There was a welcome return to goalscoring for João Félix this weekend, with the former Benfica man ending a 15-match goal drought with a brace for Jorge Jesus’ Al Nassr in a 5-0 win over Al Khaleej in Saudi Arabia. Félix cut a frustrated figure early in the game after going close with good opportunities, but soon had a smile on his face after his goals helped leaders Al Nassr remain three points clear at the top.

Leandro Antunes, Tozé (Al Riyadh)

Elsewhere in Saudi Arabia, there was bad news for Sérgio Conceição as his floundering champions Al-Ittihad were surprisingly beaten 3-1 by relegation battlers Al Riyadh. Two Portuguese were on the scoresheet for AL Riyadh: former Leiria and Feirense midfielder Leandro Antunes, as well as ex-Porto academy prospect Tozé, leaving Conceição’s champions languishing in 6th place.
