Portuguese forward Gustavo Varela's incredible form in Italy continues, after his goal in Monza's 4-1 defeat to Napoli put him top of the Serie A goalscoring charts.
Varela's well-placed header shortly before the break drew Monza level at 1-1, before Napoli proved too strong after the break. Despite the disappointing result, Varela's goal was his eighth in as many games in the Italian top flight. With two additional goals in the Coppa Italia, the 21-year-old is already into double-figures in all competitions.
He now leads Donyell Malen (Roma) and Antonio Raimondo (Frosinone) who are both on seven goals. After the match, Monza manager Ivan Jurić fielded what have become routine questions about Serie A's breakthrough star.
"He's a good player, he has a lot of room for improvement and he's working day after day. I hope he continues like this and stays humble, because he'll definitely go far," said Jurić.

Monza's local media outlet Il Cittadino summed up the situation perfectly when assessing the performance of the players against Napoli:
"Varela: Monza has only one certainty and it answers to his name. The Portuguese striker is relentless. His teammates destroyed everything."
