Seleção coach Fernando Santos has announced the squad for the final two matches of Portugal’s Euro 2020 Group B qualifying campaign, against Lithuania and Luxembourg.

Gonçalo Paciência has been rewarded for his excellent form at his club side Eintracht Frankfurt and gets a debut call-up. There are also recalls for Diogo Jota and Euro 2016 final hero Eder.

Portugal require two victories to make sure they finish second in the section and qualify automatically for the European Championship taking place next summer.

Given the calibre of the opposition, the Seleção will be confident of finishing the job, but Fernando Santos has warned it will not be straightforward.

“We have to be a dynamic and objective team against very defensive adversaries,” he said. “The strategy for these two matches? To win! The players are fully aware of what these two teams can do. We will focus 99% on our own game. We will be at Euro 2020.”

Despite exuding confidence, and perhaps in mind of the difficulties the Seleção often experience when trying to break down defensive teams, Santos has packed his squad with a range of attacking options, including three out-and-out strikers in Paciência, André Silva and Éder.

Portugal host Lithuania on Thursday 14 November at the Estádio do Algarve, before finishing their group matches in Luxembourg on Sunday 17 November.

Was hoping to see Ricardo Horta over, say, Podence. But otherwise fine.

Man, once again people on this website think real life International football management is just like a video game and if a player does well for 2 months I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY WEREN'T IN THE SQUAD. If Rui Silva and Ricardo Horta both continue to have stellar seasons there no doubt they will end up in the squad in the future yet people act like its a huge travesty just because our one and only trophy-winning manager doesn't deem too fit for this quantification process just yet.

I noticed a comment about how the Greek league may not be up to par yet there's comment to call someone that plays for BRAGA who arguably as just as good as Olympiakos.

Instead of talking tactics and other useful commentary in regards to upcoming games, all I see people whinning about the players that aren't there.

By the selection of three out and out target box strikers, tactically we can see what Santos is thinking...they will playwith a low block 10 man wall and he is gonna have ronaldo and one of the 3 always on there...expect to see fernandes and b.silva on the flanks with two holding mids ina make shift 442 formation...my only issue is that neither danilo or moutinho or neves or any other mid we have like to get in the box and if b. Fernandes doesnt join we will still be mismatched in numbers even with 2 strikers...b.silva is not going to be heading in crosses. I'd like to see a 4141 with a target man and ronaldo as seconf striker with b. Fernandes and bsilva with just danilo protecting center backs and the 2 fullback pressing forward down the flanks...having just said that...i am very disappointed that j.cancelo is out...is starting over kyle walker for man city...and he can play left back or on either wing and is arguably more offensive than any winger we have....a mistake.....thats a mistake and duarte for granada deserves the call up...is v.good in la liga...im ok with Pepe but we have now the replacements for j.fonte...between duarte semedo ferro and with an eye to the future (ferro just got injured i know).

The selection doesn't matter as long as Mr Fernandes keeps hitting his head against the wall and choose the same midfield that lost in the Ukraine. Mr Fernandes I beg you to please use the young players in the midfield. Moutinho and Joao Mario...

Joao Mario looked dangerous vs Juventus, and Moutinho's cross the other day was stellar. I don't see a problem with them on the team.

Bruma should been left out. Hé plays horrible for PSV, I live in the Netherlands hé should't be near this team. Just like joao mario.
