Portugal finalise pre-tournament schedule of friendlies ahead of Euro 2024

The FPF today announced two more friendly matches the Seleção will play shortly before heading to Germany for the European Championship this summer.

Portugal will host Finland in Lisbon on Tuesday 4 June and the Republic of Ireland in Aveiro one week later.

On the Saturday in between the Seleção will play Croatia, also in the Portuguese capital.

The final schedule of pre-tournament matches is therefore complete, with Roberto Martínez’s men playing five times before Euro 2024 kicks off on 14 June in Munich.

It has been a perfect start for Martínez since stepping into the hot seat as Portugal’s head coach in the wake of Fernando Santos’s departure after the Qatar World Cup 2022.

The Spaniard guided the team to its best ever qualifying campaign, winning all ten Group J matches, scoring 36 times (more than any other team in the qualification phase) and conceding just two goals.

There will be much interest to see how many players on the fringes of the squad Martínez selects in the March friendlies in what will be the last opportunity to impress the coach at close quarters before he announces the squad for the tournament.
