Fernando Santos has announced the Portugal squad for the final two Euro 2016 qualifiers against Denmark (home) and Serbia (away). 

Benfica right-back Nélson Semedo is called into the squad for the first time, and Belenenses goalkeeper Ventura has been selected in place of the injured Beto. 

Albania 1-6 Portugal

Most of the players from Portugal’s U21 side that finished runners-up in the summer’s European Championship may have left the squad due to being over-aged, but the new crop of talent at coach Rui Jorge’s disposal looks no less exciting.

In their first qualifying match for Euro 2017, the Seleção crushed Albania 6-1 in Tirana thanks to an André Silva hat-trick and goals from Rúben Neves, Rony Lopes and Ricardo Horta.

Albania 0-1 Portugal 

After being frustrated for most of the match, Portugal eventually found a way past pesky Albania with a rare late winner from a player not named Cristiano Ronaldo. Veloso's 92nd minute header, only his third ever goal for Portugal, was enough as the Seleção take full control of Group I on the heels of Denmark's draw against Armenia.

After the Portugal-France encounter PortuGOAL spoke to Seleção players Danilo, Bernardo Silva and José Fonte. Despite the result, all three players remain upbeat about the future of the Seleção.

“We’re a team that has a big future,” says midfielder Danilo, while centre-back José Fonte talked up Portugal’s chances of success at Euro 2016, pointing out that the side contains “the best player in the world and top players from the best clubs and the best leagues.”
