Portugal 5-0 Germany

In a comprehensively overwhelming performance, the Portugal U21 team absolutely smashed Germany tonight at the Andruv Stadium.

After consecutive subpar displays during the group stage, Portugal's most promising generation since the days of Rui Costa and Luís Figo showed their true quality with Bernardo Silva, William Carvalho, Ricardo, and Sérgio Oliveira all putting in masterful performances as Portugal storm into the Euro U21 Championship final.

Portugal’s U21 squad played Sweden to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday in their final group stage match at the European Championships in the Czech Republic. The result was enough to clinch first-place in group B and advance to the semi-finals.

The young Seleção will now have to get past Germany if they are to make the final of this tournament for only the second time in their history. Germany finished second in group A behind Denmark and bring a wealth of experience at youth level.

The winner of this contest will face either Sweden or Denmark in the final on Tuesday in Prague. PortuGoal previews Saturday’s semi-final match-up.

Portugal 1-1 Sweden

The Seleção are into the semi-finals of the U21 European Championship, where they will play Germany on Saturday.

Portugal booked their place in the last four thanks to a 1-1 draw against Sweden. A fine late strike by Gonçalo Paciência seemed to have won it for Rui Jorge's men, but Tibbling's 90th-minute equaliser for Sweden saw the Scandinavian side deny Portugal victory, and join their opponents in the last four. 

Portugal finish top of Group B, unbeaten in three games, although a return of just two goals in 270 minutes of football will certainly give Jorge food for thought. 

Portugal meet Sweden in the U21 European Championships and will advance to the semi-finals if they can avoid defeat. A 1-0 win against a strong England side and a hard fought 0-0 draw against Italy has Rui Jorge’s young men on top of Group B, a great position to progress and qualify for the Olympic Games in Brazil.

Stadion Miroslav Valenty in Uherske Hradiste is the venue, Portugal’s third consecutive match at the stadium while Sweden played their first two games 80kms away at the Andrův stadion in Olomouc.
