Pedro Rebocho finally secured his long-awaited summer move from Guingamp this week when he signed a one-year loan with an optional purchase at Turkish giants Besiktas. The left-back joins Ricardo Quaresma at the Istanbul club and makes the switch after two seasons in France.

Remaining in French football however is José Fonte, who has been issued a new contract at last season’s Ligue 1 runners up Lille. The 35-year-old still had a year to run on his deal at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy but has been rewarded with an extension until 2021 due to the influence Fonte has already made with the club.

Portugal right-back João Cancelo completed his long-awaited move to Premier League champions Manchester City on the English transfer deadline day, joining Bernardo Silva at The Etihad Stadium in a big-money deal from Juventus.

Elsewhere this week, England was a focal point for Portuguese making late summer changes as West Ham United also beat the deadline to bring in youngster Gonçalo Cardoso from Boavista, while Hélder Barbosa changes teams in Turkey and Edgar lé heads to the country with Trabzonspor.

While many of Europe’s major leagues are yet to get underway, Portuguese players plying their trade across the continent are wasting little time in making their mark on the early stages of the new season.

Raphaël Guerreiro already has a trophy under his belt after he set up the second goal in Borussia Dortmund’s German Super Cup win over Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, there were goals for Portuguese in Belgium, Poland and Bulgaria, while typically mixed fortunes bestowed the Portuguese foreign-based contingent of bosses.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have added to their Portuguese contingent by completing a double deal for Lazio youngsters Bruno Jordão and Pedro Neto.

The former pair were announced by Wolves on Friday evening and sign for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side on long-term deals, joining compatriots Rui Patricio, Rúben Vinagre, João Moutinho, Rúben Neves and Diogo Jota at Molineux.
