Benfica 3-1 Estoril

Benfica have kept the pressure on Sporting at the top of the Primeira Liga table after returning to winning ways at home to Estoril with a 3-1 victory, this Sunday night.

The Canaries fought tooth and nail against the hosts at the Estádio da Luz, responding to Orkun Kökçü’s opener through Rodrigo Gomes’ equaliser in the first half but it was Benfica who had the edge on the night, courtesy of a strike from Marcos Leonardo before the break.

Tiago Gouveia, an ex-Estoril loanee, granted Benfica the passage to all three points with a third for Roger Schmidt’s side in the 49th minute, taking the Lisbon giants back to being a point off top-spot.

Sporting Clube de Portugal consolidated their position at the top of the Primeira Liga after securing a 3-0 win in Arouca.

The Lions took the lead in the 19th minute after some nice work from Trincão, Matheus Reis’ cross presenting Viktor Gyökeres with an opportunity he couldn’t miss.

Morlaye Sylla provided some spark for Arouca at the end of the half, but clear cut chances were few and far between for the high fliers.

Sporting largely controlled proceedings in the second half but had to wait until added time to breathe easy.

They did it in style, Geny Catamo racing clear and firing his shot off the underside of the bar, Morten Hjulmand then starting and finishing a move to send the travelling Sporting supporters home happy.

It was a vital win for Rúben Amorim's side who temporarily move four points ahead of Benfica who host Estoril.

Portimonense 0-3 FC Porto

FC Porto have fuelled their preparations for next week’s Champions League clash away to Arsenal with a key 3-0 victory away to Portimonense, this Friday, for the Primeira Liga.

The Dragons followed up their eye-popping 5-0 triumph over Benfica with another dominant display, helped on by an early goal from Nico González.

Galeno and Pepê added greater comfort to a scoreline that sees Porto now trail Benfica by just three points, before the latter faces against Estoril on Sunday night.

Benfica and Rangers played out an entertaining draw in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on a rainswept night in Lisbon tonight.

Rangers twice took the lead in the first half through Tom Lawrence and Dujon Sterling.

Benfica created plenty of chances but had to rely on a Di María penalty and an own goal by Connor Goldson to draw level and set up a finely balanced second in Glasgow next Thursday.
