José Mourinho’s Roma now know their path to this season’s Europa League final, where they will seek to follow up their UEFA Conference League triumph from last year.

Roma will meet Dutch giants Feyenoord in the quarters, after which Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen or Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium would be next in the semi-finals. However, Mourinho believes the presence of eliminated Champions League teams devalues the competition.

Two of Portugal’s best-known full-backs stole the show this weekend in the Portuguese Abroad section, with João Cancelo and Raphaël Guerreiro both scoring and assisting in the German Bundesliga for Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Elsewhere, Fábio Silva continues his breakout goalscoring season which began in Belgium and progresses in the Netherlands with PSV. Francisco Conceição gave another push for more minutes at Ajax with a goal for their B team in the second tier, while veteran Paixão twins, Marco and Flávio, both scored this weekend.

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has offered an interesting insight on his approach to building a relationship with João Cancelo, after the Portugal star lost his place with the German team.

Cancelo arrived at Bayern at the end of the winter transfer window, but was substituted at half time last month against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and has been dropped to the bench for three successive games. Speaking in a press conference, Nagelsmann confirmed Cancelo has not always impressed in training, but emphasised a desire to help the right-back regain his form.

Manchester City have a real battle on their hands if they are to retain the English Premier League title this season.

Portugal internationals Rúben Dias and Bernardo Silva played important roles in delivering the league title to the Citizens last season and the pair might well have to step once again this term if the club are to be crowned champions of England once again.
