FC Porto have returned to winning ways after defeating Casa Pia 2-1 away from home, this Sunday evening, moving back up to third in the Primeira Liga table.

The Dragons fired themselves in front on the half-hour mark through Galeno but the hosts spiked the stress levels soon after with a prompt Nuno Moreira equaliser, still in the first half.

Porto reinstated their lead in good time, however, in the second period, courtesy of an eye-catching Nico González strike that was enough to tilt the balance in the visitors’ favour, securing a 2-1 win on the road.

Stalemate specialists Rio Ave lived up to their reputation after an entertaining 1-1 draw against Arouca at Estádio dos Arcos.

The visitors got on top but fell behind in the 36th minute when Joca beat the offside trap, racing onto João Teixeira’s pass and placing the ball over Ignacio de Arruabarrena.

Arouca equalised two minutes after the restart, Morlaye Sylla getting past some feeble defence before picking out Rafa Mújica who scored his 20th Primeira Liga goal of the season.

Rio Ave went closest to regaining the lead in the 77th minute, Emmanuel Boateng going on a long run and smashing a powerful effort into the post.

The result leaves Luís Freire’s side four points above Portimonense with four games to play.

Benfica’s Europa League expedition ended in the quarter-finals after a penalty shootout defeat against Marseille at Stade Vélodrome.

Travelling to France with a one-goal advantage earned after a 2-1 victory in Lisbon, the Eagles held on until the 79th minute when Faris Moumbagna headed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s cross through Anatolii Trubin.

Both teams missed chances to take a decisive lead as the game went to extra time and penalties.

Pau López guessed correctly for all four spot kicks, watching Ángel Di María’s effort hit the post before going close to denying Orkun Kökçü and Nicolás Otamendi, the goalkeeper making amends by saving António Silva’s weak effort.

Marseille were perfect from the spot with Anatolii Trubin hardly getting a look in, the French club advancing and their raucous home crowd continuing to sing long into the night.
