Portugal international Gonçalo Guedes made his debut for Villarreal on Saturday evening, as the Spanish club look to revive the winger’s career in La Liga.

Guedes returns to the region of Spain where he enjoyed a five-year spell with Valencia, which was followed by a big-money move to English side Wolverhampton Wanderers and a loan stint at former club Benfica in his homeland.

Pendikspor 4-0 Besiktas

Former Portugal manager Fernando Santos suffered his heaviest defeat in almost 14 years this weekend as Besiktas were humiliated 4-0 in the Turkish Super Lig at the hands of Ivo Vieira’s Pendikspor.

Santos had been enjoying a fine start to life in Turkey following his appointment earlier this month, overseeing three straight victories with eleven goals scored and zero conceded. However, the streak came to a devastating end at the hands of fellow Istanbul outfit Pendikspor at the Siltaş Yapı Pendik Stadium.

Paulo Bernardo has truly found his feet with Scottish champions Celtic, and the club’s manager Brendan Rodgers says there is a good chance of making his deal in Glasgow permanent.

Bernardo scored the opening goal in a 5-0 win over Buckie Thistle in the Scottish FA Cup on Sunday, meaning the Portuguese has three goals and two assists from his last four matches for the Hoops.

Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira has committed his future to Brazilian champions Palmeiras by signing a contract extension with the São Paulo club until December 2025.

Abel had a year left to run on his deal with Verdão but has prolonged his deal for another year, despite a remarkable offer from Qatari club Al Sadd during the South American close season.
