Sporting Clube de Portugal are the 2023/24 Primeira Liga champions.

Benfica travelled to Famalicão where second-half goals from Puma Rodríguez and Zaydou Youssouf gave the hosts a 2-0 victory, thus leaving Sporting with an 8-point lead at the summit of the Primeira Liga with two matches remaining. 

The Lions win the 20th Portuguese title in their history, and their second in the last four seasons under Rúben Amorim.

GD Chaves 0-3 FC Porto

FC Porto bounced back from last week’s disappointment versus Sporting with a comfortable 3-0 victory away to relegation-threatened Chaves, this Saturday night.

The Blue & Whites commanded the fixture with two first-half goals from Francisco Conceição and Evanilson against ten-man Chaves, without the red-carded Júnior Pius from the 28th minute onwards.

A 73rd minute penalty from Mehdi Taremi sealed a routine win against 17th-placed Chaves, leaving the hosts five points from escaping the drop zone while Porto put the pressure on Sporting de Braga in the battle for third place.

Sporting 3-0 Portimonense

Sporting are just a result away from claiming the Primeira Liga title with two league fixtures to go after defeating Portimonense 3-0 at Alvalade, this Saturday evening.

The Lions rose to the occasion with a dominant first half display, but only had one Paulinho goal to show for their promise in the opening 45 minutes.

Francisco Trincão’s strike in the 70th minute alleviated matters with a deserved second goal. The finishing touch to a key victory was reserved for Viktor Gyökeres, leaving Sporting needing just a draw against Estoril, or Benfica’s failure to defeat Famalicão on Sunday night, to clinch the league title.

Sporting Clube de Portugal came back from the death to earn a 2-2 draw against Porto in a sensational game of football at Estádio do Dragão.

The Dragons got off to a great start, pouncing on a loose pass from Franco Israel which saw Evanilson open the scoring in the 7th minute.

Porto doubled their lead in the 40th minute after a long run forward by 18-year-old Martim Fernandes, the debutant picking out Pepê Aquino who fired past Israel.

Viktor Gyökeres replaced Bragança at half-time, Rúben Amorim introducing Nuno Santos in the 60th minute and Marcus Edwards in the 86th. All three players would contribute to an incredible preiod of play which saw Sporting score twice in 60 seconds.

It had to be Gyökeres, the Swedish striker heading home Santos’ cross before tapping in Edwards’ cross after Porto had gifted the Lions possession from the restart.

It was an incredible end to the game, the result seeing Sporting inch closer to the Primeira Liga title, now five points clear of Benfica with three games remaining. Porto move one point ahead of Braga in the race for third spot.
