LevelUp 2026: Are Online Casinos Rigged? RNG and House Edge

No. A game doesn't change its behaviour because you're ahead, because you've been playing for an hour, or because your bet went up. Each result comes from a random number generator, and the only thing built into the maths is the house edge, which is published in every game.

This guide explains how both work, what testing covers, and what you can check yourself before you play.

Are online casinos rigged?

Here's what happens when you press spin. The software generates a number, that number maps to a position on the reels, and the result is fixed at that moment. The reels you watch afterwards just show it.

So a few things are simply true:

  •       Rounds don't remember each other. Ten spins without a win don't change the next one.
  •       Your balance, session length and bet size aren't part of the calculation.
  •       We don't touch individual rounds. Games run on the studio's own software, which is tested before it goes live in our lobby.

Common worries, and what's actually going on

What players worry about

What actually happens

The game pays less when I'm ahead

Every round is independent, so earlier results don't affect the next one

Big bets get punished

A bigger stake makes the win or loss bigger, the odds stay the same

New accounts get a lucky start

There's no starting phase, the maths is the same from the first round

Autoplay pays worse than tapping

How you start a round doesn't reach the generator, only your pace changes

The RTP gets adjusted while I play

The value is part of the game build and doesn't change mid-session

Where the house edge comes from

Every casino game is designed so that over a very long run, a small share of all bets stays with the house. That share is the house edge. What's left is the RTP, the share that goes back to players.

At table games you can work it out from the rules. European roulette has 37 pockets and pays a single number at 35 to 1, which gives a 2.7% edge on every bet at that wheel. The banker bet in baccarat is 1.06%. Blackjack played with basic strategy stays under 1% with standard rules. For slots, the RTP depends on the title, and you'll find it in each game's information panel.

Open that panel before you play. It's one tap, and it shows you exactly what you're playing with.

Why a losing session can feel unfair

It comes down to volatility.

A high volatility slot can go forty spins with very little, then pay more in one round than in all of those combined. It's the same game the whole time. Long quiet stretches and occasional big hits are how that kind of slot is built to pay.

Pace matters too. A fast slot can run hundreds of rounds an hour, and the house edge applies to the total amount bet, not to the time spent. Play more rounds and the long-run numbers show up sooner.

If you want steadier sessions, pick a low volatility game. If you want the chance of bigger single wins and can handle dry spells, pick high volatility. The demo version shows you the difference quickly.

What licensing and testing cover

A gambling regulator sets rules for how games are tested, how player money is held, how complaints are handled and how identity checks work. Independent testing labs check the random number generator and confirm that a game pays out in line with its published maths.

That keeps the game honest about what it is. It doesn't change the odds: a tested game with a 96% RTP is still a 96% RTP game.

Our operator details, terms and responsible gaming policy are in the site footer and the terms section. Take two minutes to read them before your first deposit.

Four things you can check yourself

1.     The game's RTP, shown in its information panel before you place a bet.

2.     The game's rhythm in demo mode, available after you register, so you can see how often features land without spending anything.

3.     Your account history, which lists every deposit and withdrawal with the date, amount and method.

4.     Your limits: deposit limits, session limits, cooling-off and self-exclusion, all set by you in the account. Lowering a limit takes effect straight away.

Before your first withdrawal, we verify your account with photo identification and a proof of address. That check also makes sure nobody else can withdraw from your account.

Frequently asked questions

Can a game's RTP change while I'm playing?

No. Studios release games in fixed configurations, and the RTP that applies is shown in the game's information panel.

Does the generator know my balance?

No. Balance, bet size and session length aren't inputs to the result.

Why do wins seem more frequent in demo mode?

The maths is the same. In demo mode there's no real money at stake, so quiet stretches are easier to overlook.

How do live dealer games work?

Results come from real cards and a real wheel on camera rather than from software. The house edge still applies, and you can see the table rules before you sit down.

What can I actually control?

Which game you play, how much you bet per round, and when you stop. Those three choices shape your session far more than any pattern you might spot.
