Week 7 saw a number of closely fought encounters with just a single goal separating the victors and losers in several of the matches. The competition for this week’s feature was not as clear due to the attritional nature of the weekend’s action. Rodrigo Pinho was certainly a contender as his late brace secured a vital victory for Marítimo over Moreirense.

However once again we are focused on Famalicão as their incredible season rumbled on with a comeback win over Belenenses. Brazilian striker Anderson Silva came off the bench and changed the game completely, and he is the PortuGOAL Figure of the Week.

Week 7 was business as usual in many respects as last season’s top 5 all recorded victories, albeit in narrow fashion, each of them winning by a single goal margin.

Benfica edged Vitória Setúbal, Porto held off Rio Ave and Braga overcame Portimonense. Sporting and Vitória Guimarães both needed late penalties to defeat Desportivo Aves and Paços Ferreira respectively.

Elsewhere the story of the season continued as promoted Famalicão stayed top of Liga NOS after coming from behind to defeat Belenenses.

Jorge Manuel Rebelo Fernandes, known in the football world as Silas, has been appointed coach of Sporting Clube de Portugal, replacing interim manager Leonel Pontes.

Silas, 43 years old, whose first managerial position was as coach of Belenenses SAD last season, becomes the fifth different coach to take charge of the troubled Lisbon club’s first team in less than a year. He has been given a contract until the end of the season with an option for an additional year. 

Week 6 of Liga NOS saw Famalicão’s fairytale story continue with a late win at Sporting, while Porto and Benfica remained in hot pursuit with victories of their own.

Braga’s struggles in the league continued, and newly-promoted Paços Ferreira got off the mark with a win over fellow strugglers Aves.

One side who have been quietly improving though is Vitória Guimarães, who after a slow start have crept up the table into 6th place after a 3-1 win at Tondela. Midfielder Lucas Evangelista played a key role in Sunday’s win and is PortuGOAL’s Figure of the Week.
