Primeira Liga high-flyers Famalicão have been knocked off the top of the table after succumbing to their first loss of the season, against FC Porto, in a 3-0 defeat at the Estádio do Dragão.

The newly-promoted outfit saw top-spot first come under threat after Benfica opened up Sunday’s set of fixtures with a narrow 1-0 victory away to Tondela. Porto then dragged Famalicão back down to reality with a dominant display, utilising goals from Luis Díaz, Tiquinho Soares and the young Fábio Silva to make first place their own on Sunday night.

Sporting and Vitória de Guimarães brought the night to a close in Lisbon, with the Lions skating past any additional pressure to defeat the ‘Vimarenses’ 3-1 at home. PortuGOAL brings you the peak of this weekend's action.

Porto overtook Benfica at the top of the Primeira Liga after a 3-0 win against Famalicão at the Estádio do Dragão. Sérgio Conceição made alterations to his side that had a positive impact, but the Dragons were largely gifted all three goals that came directly from terrible Famalicão turnovers.

Sporting and Porto underwhelm

Two victories, one draw and one defeat made it a positive balance for the Portuguese representatives in the Europa League on Thursday. Ironically, the only team that lost, Vitória de Guimarães, were the side that put in the best performance, leading for most of the game in London against Arsenal before cruelly going down to a 3-2 defeat after two late goals.

Vitória’s Minho neighbours, Braga, continued their magnificent form in Europe, beating Besiktas 2-1 in Istanbul to put themselves top of Group K. A scrappy goal reflected the manner of Sporting’s 1-0 win over Rosenborg at Alvalade, while Porto also put in a disappointing display in a 1-1 draw against Rangers at the Estádio do Dragão.
