After a couple of weeks of international and cup football to sink our teeth into, the Primeira Liga returned with a whole host of emblematic encounters to get the mood rolling again. First on the agenda was a derby, no less, as second-placed Sporting de Braga were made to settle for a point away to Vitória de Guimarães in a 1-1 draw, last Friday.

The shock of the round was reserved for the iconic Jamor stadium, where Benfica picked up their first league defeat of the season after losing 2-0 to Belenenses, with FC Porto capitalising on the result to top the table, defeating Feirense 2-0 at home in the process.

Also fired up were Sporting, who returned to winning ways in the league with a 3-0 victory over Boavista at Alvalade. PortuGOAL brings you the best of the action.

FC Porto took a huge step towards the last 16 of the Champions League with a 3-1 win at Lokomotiv Moscow, but it was a disappointing European week for Lisbon clubs Benfica and Sporting, who both conceded late goals to fall to 1-0 defeats against Ajax and Arsenal respectively.

Elsewhere Portuguese players and coaches were making waves throughout Europe. Raphaël Guerreiro scored two goals as Borussia Dortmund produced the stand-out performance of the week by thrashing Atletico Madrid 4-0, and fellow Portugal internationals Bernardo Silva and Bruma were also on the mark. Benfica grabbed all the headlines as Liga NOS pauses for another international break following Week 7, beating Porto 1-0 in the Clássico to claim top spot in the division. Other highlights included Portimonense’s Shoya Nakajima displaying another scintillating example of his talent in a 4-2 upset of Sporting, while Rio Ave battled to an impressive draw away at Braga.

However for the second week running PortuGOAL’s Figure of the Week is an unlikely hat-trick hero, Hildeberto Pereira netting all 3 goals as Vitória Setúbal beat Moreirense 3-0 at Estádio do Bonfim.

Benfica 1-0 FC Porto

Benfica returned to the summit of the Primeira Liga table after a second-half goal from Haris Seferovic handed the Eagles a 1-0 win over FC Porto at the Estádio da Luz, this evening.

Following Sporting de Braga's 1-1 draw to Rio Ave on Saturday night, the two giants locked horns in a direct dispute for top spot before the upcoming international break, as both sides played out a goalless first half.

Seferovic stepped up to tip the balance for the hosts in the second period. The Eagles were tasked with defending their lead with 10 men after Cristian Lema's red card late on, but Porto failed to hit back.
