There was plenty of drama in Week 32 of Liga NOS as Porto left it late to all but seal their first league title since 2013 with a win over Marítimo, while Sporting moved into a strong position to seal Champions League qualification by beating Portimonense.

None of this would have been possible though without what was undoubtedly the story of the weekend, Tondela securing the upset of the season with a stunning 3-2 win away at defending champions Benfica.

Just two fixtures now separate us from the end of the Liga NOS season. An exciting weekend of action left those orbiting the Primeira Liga world potentially a mere result away from meeting its champion.

The biggest tremors came from the Estádio da Luz, where Benfica, despite leading, succumbed to a shock 3-2 loss at home to Tondela on Saturday night. With FC Porto ready to pounce on the Eagles' slip-up, Sporting also looked to capitalise on the title holders' downfall with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Portimonense, leaving both rivals locked on 77 points ahead of next week's Lisbon Derby.

In a patient effort, Porto seized their opportunity and move to within a point of securing the title, as a late Moussa Marega goal downed 9-man Marítimo in Madeira. PortuGOAL brings you up to speed with the final stages of the Primeira Liga title race.

The Liga NOS title race looks set to go down to the wire with all of the “Big 3” securing victories to keep their respective hopes alive.

Down at the bottom it looks equally nail-biting, with Moreirense and Feirense each securing vital wins this weekend. One side who perhaps might have been expected to be in the relegation scrap with them was Tondela, having needed dramatic final day wins to survive in each of the last two seasons.

However, the campaign has been a comparative breeze for Pepa’s men, and they secured their top-flight status for 2018/19 on Sunday with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Aves. The undoubted star of the show was New Zealand international Tyler Boyd, with two assists and a superb late goal to cap his performance. He is PortuGOAL’s Figure of the Week.

With the Primeira Liga title race now dangerously close to boiling point, all eyes were on what Benfica and FC Porto could do in their respective games, post-Clássico, as Sporting laid in wait of a slip-up from the top two at home to Boavista.

Benfica moved first to claim a victory versus Estoril away from home, although it required 92nd-minute heroics from Eduardo Salvio to get over the line, with third-placed Sporting tucking Boavista away with a 1-0 win on Sunday night.

The majority of the goals were reserved for the Estádio do Dragão, where Porto were able to stick five past Vitória de Setúbal in a 5-1 win and maintain a two-point advantage over second place. PortuGOAL brings you up to speed with this weekend's top action.
