Inter 1-2 Milan

Paulo Fonseca was victorious in his first Milan derby on Sunday night, as the Rossoneri ran out deserving winners over Inter at San Siro to end a torrid run of six straight defeats in the fixture. 

Matter Gabbia struck in the 89th minute to give Milan the points many felt they had earned, with Fonseca’s opposite number Simone Inzaghi admitting that the better team won on the night.

Fenerbahçe 1-3 Galatasaray

José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe suffered a painful defeat at home to Galatasaray in the Portuguese coach’s first taste of an Istanbul derby on Saturday evening.

Although the match was evenly contested for the most part, the visitors scored twice in the first half to take a strong advantage into the break and see the game through. Galatasaray remain at 100% this season and continue to be many observers’ strong favourites to retain their Super Lig title.

It was a busy weekend for the Portuguese contingent at Turkish Super Lig giants Beşiktaş, who were held to a 1-1 draw at 10-man Trabzonspor on Sunday evening.

Gedson Fernandes scored a first-half equaliser with a nice finish from a slick team move, while recent acquisition João Mário made his debut. The biggest talking point, however, was the ongoing targeting of expensive arrival Rafa Silva from opposition players, which has already seen two red cards issued for fouls on the former Benfica attacker.

Monza 1-1 Internazionale

Portuguese forward Dany Mota scored what looked to be a winning goal in Serie A for Monza last night, as his side almost upset Italian champions Inter.

The Portugal U21 international, who was introduced just after the hour, rose to head home Armando Izzo’s cross with ten minutes remaining to give the hosts a shock lead. Denzel Dumfries levelled for the visitors in the 88th minute to earn Inter a share of the spoils.
