French club LOSC Lille has proved a highly successful foreign spot for Portuguese footballers to develop in recent years. Under Luso coach Paulo Fonseca, the trend continues with summer recruit Tiago Santos joining Tiago Djaló in French Flanders in his first venture abroad.

20-year-old full-back Santos cost Lille €6.5m from Estoril, where he developed a reputation for his adventurous and skilful attacking play. A former Sporting academy prospect, Santos will be looking to become the latest Portuguese to thrive at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been confirmed as the new club captain at Manchester United, replacing Harry Maguire in the role.

Fernandes had been strongly tipped to succeed Maguire, who had the armband removed earlier this month, after greatly impressing United manager Erik ten Hag last season.

Rony Lopes has been training three times per day ahead of returning for pre-season with Sevilla, as he prepares to fight for the opportunity to finally prove himself in Spain.

Lopes signed for Sevilla in 2019 but struggled to make an impact in Andalusia, leading to unsuccessful loans to Olympiacos in Greece and Nice in France. However, an impressive loan spell with Troyes in France last term has re-energised the Portugal international’s career after several years of stagnation.

Veteran Portuguese winger Nani has a new club. The Seleção legend has signed a contract with Turkish side Adana Demirspor until 2024, with the option to extend the deal by a further year.

Nani has been without a club since May following his departure from Australians Melbourne Victory, where his stint down under was ruined by an ACL injury earlier this year. At the age of 36, Nani joins the 9^th club of his professional career, returning to  Turkey where he spent a season with Fenerbahce in 2015-16.
