Nuno Espírito Santo’s Wolverhampton Wanderers were knocked out of the Europa League on Tuesday, as the final four in the competition was decided in Germany.

A defensive Wolves side went down to a late goal and a 1-0 defeat to Sevilla, but there was better news for Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United and Shakhtar Donetsk coach Luis Castro who both secured places in the semi-finals.

Paulo Sousa has left his role as manager of Ligue 1 side Girondins Bordeaux, ending weeks of speculation over the Portuguese’s future in France.

The well-travelled coach arrived at Bordeaux in March 2019, but disputes with the board over recent months had seen his long-term stability at the club thrown into doubt. On Monday, Sousa confirmed in a social media post that he is moving on after almost 18 months at the helm.

The Champions League and Europa League knockout stages are fully underway again, as the quarter final line-ups are decided in both competitions. The last eight in the Europa was decided by Thursday evening, while on Friday heavyweights Juventus and Real Madrid exited the Champions League after their last-16 second legs were played.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus were eliminated by Lyon on away goals after a 2-1 win for the Italians on home soil levelled the tie up at 2-2 on aggregate. Ronaldo got both goals for Juve, but the Portugal captain is out of the tournament before the quarter finals for the first time in ten years.

Veteran Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira has been dismissed as coach of Brazilian side Santos after just eight months at the helm, and before taking charge of a single Brazilian top-flight league match.

Jesualdo arrived in Brazil at the turn of the year, signing a 12-month contract to replace the vastly successful Jorge Sampaoli as Santos boss. However, there has been much speculation over the 74-year-old’s future during his reign at Vila Belmiro.
