José Mourinho has admitted he regrets turning down the chance to coach the Portugal national side, insisting that his connection with Roma was the reason he refused the offer.

Mourinho says he has twice been approached to take over the Seleção, with the most recent coming before Roberto Martínez was appointed last January. Just a year later Mourinho was fired by Roma, leading him to feel he made the wrong decision to stay at the Stadio Olimpico.

Portugal’s Raphaël Guerreiro is unlikely to play again this season, after suffering an ankle ligament injury during Bayern Munich’s 3-1 defeat at Stuttgart on Saturday.

Guerreiro was forced off in the first half and left the MHPArena on crutches, with Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel admitting the Seleção man “was not good at all” before ruling him out of the midweek Champions League trip to Real Madrid.

André Silva has been speaking to Spanish media about life with Real Sociedad, where the Portugal forward finds himself happy with his surroundings but struggling for minutes in La Liga.

Silva also touched on his international prospects, as well as the Seleção’s chances at this summer’s European Championships. The subject of Cristiano Ronaldo was also raised, with Silva praising the Portugal captain’s influence and suggesting he does not see Ronaldo ending his career anytime soon.

The number of Portuguese coaches in the Campeonato Brasileiro 2024 has increased to five after Armando Petit was confirmed as new boss of Cuiabá on Thursday.

Petit has signed a contract until the end of the 2025 season with the Mato Grosso club, whose president Cristiano Dresch was pleased to announce the new boss having apparently scoured Portugal to fill the vacancy.
