Marco Silva’s Fulham have been one of the revelations of the Premier League so far this season, and the Cottagers show no signs of slowing down on their return to the English top flight.
After an impressive first half of the campaign, Fulham have been the second-best team in the league since the World Cup when it comes to points gained. Under the guidance of Portuguese boss Silva, the London outfit have impressed many with their football and sit 6th in the table.
The protagonists in our latest round-up have plenty in common: left-footed; former Benfica players; all scored superb goals for their clubs over the weekend. Bernardo Silva leads the way with a fantastic strike for Manchester City in the Premier League, followed by Nuno Tavares getting yet another Ligue 1 goal for Marseille and Gil Dias continuing to make waves in Germany.
Elsewhere, there were goals for Josué in Poland with Legia Warsaw, Francisco Conceição with Ajax’s B team in the Netherlands second tier, as well as Ruben Rodrigues pushing for promotion to the football league in England’s National League.
Paulo Sousa is back in football with Italian side Salernitana. The Portuguese was announced by the Campania club on Thursday and will make his debut on the bench against Lazio in Serie A on Sunday.
Sousa has signed a contract initially until the end of the season, with an option of a 2-year extension should Salernitana avoid relegation. I Granata are currently 16th in the table, four points clear of the drop zone.
Great news for Portugal manager Roberto Martínez this weekend as two Seleção internationals made their long-awaited returns from injury in the Premier League.
Ricardo Pereira featured for Leicester City on Saturday for the first time this term, having been out since pre-season with an Achilles injury. On Monday evening Diogo Jota, missing since October, also made his comeback for Liverpool in the Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield.
João Félix admitted it was a relief to score his first goal for Chelsea at the weekend in the Premier League, after a month on the sidelines at his new team through suspension.
Félix struck in the Blues’ 1-1 draw at West Ham United on Saturday, finding the net on just his second appearance for the club. Elsewhere, there was also a first goal in new surroundings for Fábio Silva, who got himself on the scoresheet in the Netherlands for PSV during a convincing victory.
