Petit is no longer coach of Boavista. News broke that Petit was resigning yesterday, but the decision reached through mutual agreement between manager and club was made official this afternoon.

Despite a poor run of form that has seen the Axadrezados win just one of their last 10 matches, the 47-year-old coach leaves the Bessa with his reputation significantly enhanced after doing a fine job in Porto over the past two years.

FC Porto have gone level on points with first-placed Sporting after the latter lost for the second time in the Primeira Liga, this season, being bested by Vitoria to the tune of a 3-2 defeat.

The Lions were hopeful of increasing their lead over Benfica, who had drawn 1-1 to Farense the night prior, but, despite leading, saw their advantage overturned to 3-2 in rainy conditions.

Sporting’s defeat opened up an avenue for Porto to climb back up the table and match the table-toppers’ tally, doing so with 3-1 victory at home to Casa Pia to set up a tasty-looking Clássico between first and second place on the 18th December.

Benfica 1-1 Farense

Benfica have dropped more points in their defence of the Primeira Liga title after drawing 1-1 at home to Farense, this Friday.

The holders were forced to come back from a goal down in search of a result after an improbable goal from Farense’s Claudio Falcão set the Leões de Faro ahead early in the second half.

Benfica replied with an equaliser in the 71st minute through Rafa Silva, but a persistent inability to find the back of the net from copious amounts of chances created sentenced the Eagles to back-to-back league draws.

Braga secured their fourth straight win in the Primeira Liga after a 3-1 victory in Vizela.

Simon Banza opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he converted Joe Mendes’ low cross into the six-yard box.

Vizela created chances but were wasteful in front of goal, the hosts paying the price in the 56th minute when Rodrigo Zalazar’s cross was headed home by Banza.

Pablo Villar’s side gave the home crowd some hope in the 72nd minute when they reduced the deficit. Samuel Essende rose high and headed Samu’s corner into the net, the goal standing after a nervous wait for referee Cláudio Pereira to check for a foul that never was.

Vizela tried hard to find an equaliser, their attacking intentions exploited in added time when Fabijan Buntić left his box, Bruma taking advantage and rolling the ball into an empty net.
