In addition to Portugal’s favourable Euro 2024 draw, there was another piece of fantastic news for fans of Portuguese football all over the world at the weekend. 

US company FITE have bought exclusive broadcasting rights to Liga Portugal in a range of countries around the globe, making it easier to watch not only what promises to be a fascinating Primeira Liga title race this season, but Portuguese club football through the 2025/2026 campaign at least. 

Sporting came from behind to beat Gil Vicente in Lisbon tonight and return to the top of the table, leapfrogging city rivals Benfica.

The visitors shocked the Alvalade crowd by taking the lead in the 34th minute through a Rúben Fernandes header, but Nuno Santos’s shot was deflected into his own net by Pedro Tiba for the equaliser just before the break.

The hosts ran out convincing winners in the second half thanks to a brace from man-of-the-match Viktor Gyökeres. The irrepressible Swedish striker had the ball in the net twice more on the night, only to be denied by narrow offside calls and came close to his hat-trick on several occasions.

Benfica have dropped points for a third time this season after failing to alter a 0-0 score-line away to high-flying Moreirense, this Sunday.

The Eagles were bested in Moreira de Cónegos by the hosts who always looked the likeliest to break the deadlock in an open first half of football.

As things got cagey throughout the second period, the game tilted Benfica’s way, but it did so without the craft and imagination required to earn the Lisbon outfit a much-needed victory, as the two sides shared the points at full time.

FC Porto have levelled Benfica and Sporting’s points total after defeating FC Famalicão 3-0 away from home, this Saturday.

The Dragons came flying out the blocks with an early strike from the in-form Evanilson, getting Porto off the mark before Mehdi Taremi, overdue a goal, made it 2-0 still in the first half.

A third from Francisco Conceição added the finishing touches to a successful outing for the side managed by his father, Sérgio, clocking up their ninth league win of the season.
