Newcastle United 1-3 Nottingham Forest

Portuguese boss Nuno Espírito Santo is making a fine early impression in his new role with English Premier League club Nottingham Forest.

Tuesday’s victory over Newcastle United at St James Park represented a rare away win for relegation-battlers Forest, in what was Nuno’s second match in charge of the East Midlands side.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Vitinha is proving one of the best Portuguese performers across Europe this season, not least due to the midfielder’s sudden explosion of goalscoring form.

The former Porto man has scored five goals in Ligue 1 already his season, which represents not only by far his most productive campaign but exceeds the total amount of top-flight goals (4) scored throughout his career previously.

Nuno Espírito Santo is back in the English Premier League, having been confirmed as the new manager of Nottingham Forest on a contract until 2026.

The former Porto boss has been out of work since leaving Saudi Arabian champions Al Ittihad in November, after he had guided them to the Pro League title last season. Nuno will make his debut on the bench on Saturday when Forest host Bournemouth at the City Ground.

José Mourinho has been speaking about his two-and-a-half years at the helm of Manchester United, where he says he harbours no regrets despite an ultimately disappointing period in charge at Old Trafford.

Mourinho arrived at United in 2016 and was widely expected to revive the Red Devils after a troublesome few years following Alex Ferguson’s retirement. However, the Portuguese found himself fired in December 2018 despite delivering a Europa League and an English League Cup during his first season, as well as a runners-up finish in his second term.
