Juventus 3-2 FC Porto (aggretate: 4-4, Porto win on away goals)

Porto produced a memorable performance in Italy tonight to knock out Juventus and make progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. 

Leading 2-1 from the first leg, Sérgio Oliveira’s penalty in the first half seemed to have set Porto on their way to victory in the tie, as Juve now required two goals just to draw level on aggregate. But a nightmare start to the second half saw Chiesa score twice and Mehdi Taremi sent off. 

Porto’s 10 men held on until extra time, and when Oliveira scored direct from a free kick in the 115th minute Porto were in dreamland. Juventus hit straight back through Rabiot to make it an incredibly nervy final few minutes, but with the commanding Pepe continuing a magnificent display at the heart of the defence, the Dragons held on for a historic night. 

Porto 2-3 Braga (aggregate 2-4)

Braga are in the final of the Portuguese Cup after overcoming FC Porto in an action-packed semi-final second leg at the Estádio do Dragão last night.

The visitors raced into a 3-goal lead thanks to a brace from Abel Ruiz and a goal by Lucas Piazon, but a quick Porto reply from Otávio, followed almost immediately by a 34^th-minute red card for Braga’s Cristian Borja gave the Dragons hope.

Moussa Marega pulled another goal back for Porto in the second half, but it was too late to rescue the situation and it is Braga who have booked their place in the end-of-season showpiece match. 

“O Clássico” was the highlight on paper of Week 21 of Liga NOS, although Porto and Sporting’s encounter proved a tense 0-0 to leave the Lions in the title race driving seat. Benfica and Braga made up some ground on the pair by beating Rio Ave and Nacional respectively.

Paços Ferreira’s unbeaten run came to an end as Santa Clara swept them aside in front of an Azores crowd of spectators, while Tondela secured an important victory over Gil Vicente to climb into the top half of the table.

One team that has been stuttering of late is Vitória Guimarães but they got back on the winning trail against Boavista this weekend, they were inspired by PortuGOAL Figure of the Week Rochinha, who stepped in for the injured Ricardo Quaresma to decisive effect.

Sporting de Braga have risen up to second place after beating Nacional 2-1 in the wake of FC Porto’s 0-0 draw with Sporting, over the weekend.

The Arsenalistas registered three potentially crucial points away at the Choupana with first-half goals from Fransérgio and Abel Ruiz, in a lead that was later halved by a Brayan Riascos finish.

As Braga moved up the table, and with Paços de Ferreira also losing, Benfica cut the gap between them and Porto back down to three points after defeating Rio Ave 2-0 at home on Monday night. PortuGOAL has more on the rest of this weekend’s action.
