Porto’s Europa League campaign will continue after a 3-2 victory against Feyenoord at the Estádio do Dragão. Porto were 2-0 up inside 15 minutes thanks to Luis Díaz and a Tyrell Malacia own goal, the Dragons then falling asleep in allowing Eric Botteghin and Sam Larsson to restore parity.

Tiquinho bundled the ball over the line in the 33^rd minute that ended up being the winning goal. Sérgio Conceição’s side were on the back foot for most of the second half, but they hung on and snatched top spot in Group G after Young Boys’ late equaliser in Glasgow. Wins for Porto, Braga and Vitória

It was another positive night for Portuguese football as Porto, Braga and Vitória scored ten goals between them to beat Feyenoord, Slovan Bratislava and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively.

Porto and Braga win their respective groups, and join Benfica in being seeded in the draw for the knockout stage of the Europa League which takes place on Monday. Sporting will also be in the draw, but will be unseeded after crashing to a 3-0 loss against LASK in Austria.

Elsewhere, Diogo Jota hit a hat-trick for Nuno Espírito Santo’s Wolves and Paulo Fonseca’s Roma got the result they needed to also feature in the draw. 

Ronaldo and Félix on target

Despite failing to progress in the Champions League, Benfica’s steadily improved showings throughout their Group G campaign culminated in the Eagles qualifying for the Europa League thanks to a 3-0 victory over Zenit St Petersburg on Tuesday night in Lisbon.

Elsewhere, João Félix and Cristiano Ronaldo hit the net, Olympiacos and their Portuguese contingent grabbed a dramatic late win to stay in Europe, but there was disappointment for Luís Castro as his Shakhtar Donetsk side missed a golden opportunity to reach the knockout stage of the Champions League. The penultimate Liga NOS round before Christmas saw a couple of shock results, notably bottom club Aves finally ending a wretched run with an upset over Braga, while Tondela also raised eyebrows by winning away at high-flying Famalicão.

Significant developments at the top too as defending champions Benfica moved 4 points clear in the title race, beating Boavista while Porto only managed a point at Belenenses, who largely had PortuGOAL Figure of the Week Hervé Koffi to thank in frustrating their opponents with a big performance in goal.
