Notably Vitória Guimarães edged a thriller against their rivals for 5th place Rio Ave, while Marcel Keizer’s 100% start as Sporting manager continued after a comfortable win over Aves.

It’s defending champions Porto though who are looking close to their unstoppable best at the moment, the goals continuing to flow for the division’s top scorers in a 4-1 defeat of Portimonense. Up front Mali striker Moussa Marega looks to have hit top form again after some early season disciplinary issues, and he is PortuGOAL’s Figure of the Week.

With the top of the Primeira Liga table nicely-crammed with contenders, FC Porto did the honours of getting the ball rolling this week with a 4-1 victory home versus Portimonense, consolidating top-spot before their final UEFA Champions’ League encounter.

Both Sporting de Braga and Benfica followed the table-topper’s win with triumphs of their own, albeit by the minimal 1-0 advantage over Tondela and Vitória de Setúbal, respectively, as Marcel Keizer’s Sporting geared up to receive Desportivo das Aves on Sunday night.

The Dutchman’s bright start to life in Lisbon gained more traction as the Lions, despite going down to ten men, stacked up on the goals once more to defeat Aves 4-1 at the Alvalade. PortuGOAL brings you more from Matchday 12:

After another lengthy break due to international competition and the continuation of Portugal’s domestic cups, Liga NOS returned for Jornada 11 at the weekend. Porto dramatically maintained top spot with a last minute derby win over Boavista, while Braga, Sporting and Benfica all kept up the pace on the defending champions with victories of their own.

Elsewhere the goals flowed with no less than three 3-2 matches, Portimonense and Nacional gaining vital victories against Tondela and Aves respectively. The third of these scorelines began the round’s action on Friday night, as PortuGOAL’s Figure of the Week Fredy Ribeiro inspired Belenenses to triumph away at Santa Clara.

A Jonas-inspired Benfica put their recent poor form and rampant speculation regarding the future of Rui Vitória behind them with a convincing 4-0 victory over Feirense at the Estádio da Luz. Also on Saturday evening Braga showed they have no intention of dropping out the title race as they saw off Moreirense 2-0 at the Quarry.

On Sunday it was Porto’s turn to enter into action, and the Dragons kept up their winning habit, but only just. A strike from Hernâni deep in stoppage time snatched all three points at the Bessa against City rivals Boavista. On Monday night Sporting travelled to Rio Ave and continued their excellent form under new coach Marcel Keizer, clocking up a 3-1 win against the high-flying Vila do Conde side.
